Rhys Chatham - A Crimson Grail (Really lovely and well-constructed in form. I keep appreciating it more.)

Jorge Oraison - Guitar Music of Leo Brouwer

White Stripes - Icky Thump (Not totally sure what I think. They seem to be slipping towards genericism at points. There are really good moments though. "Conquest" is great.)

Radiohead - In Rainbows (I think I like it more than the WS but still a bit underwhelming compared to previous releases. It's possible that says more about me than about them.)

I might go to sleep to Plant/Krauss or Fennesz/Sakamoto.

James Dillon - "Vernal Showers" and his piano solo "Spleen".

Last night it ws the Braxton quartet on "London (1985)" where the ensemble are effectively trying to cohere many of Braxton's different compositions together.

Went to a piano recital given by Jonathan Powell a couple of days back. Three concerts + 2 breaks, a total of nearly three hours. This might sound daunting to some, but it wsn't all solo. The first ws a solo only, of new and older contemporary works. It ws an excellent choice to play Ives' "Celestial Railroad" first, its macabre dances completely engaged me, putting me in a gd frame of mind for the next two concerts. He carried this 'theme' through much of the rest of the programming -- there were some interesting links in mood between the Ives and Finnissy's (solo) Piano concerto no.6 in the second concert.

The spell lasted until the third concert, a duet with a Scandinavian pianist. Fatigue set in with Debussy, another simply sounded like they didn't get it together. The concert ended with Percy Granger's "Spoon River; Green Bushes", which is a good summation of the evening -- a tendency to revel in cliches to blow off the modernistic surfaces. (xp)

Watched a recital for solo flute -- only one of the four works, which also happened to have an electronic component/amplification, happened to be the one that didn't quite work for me.

Other highlights -- "Shibito" feat. Masayuki Takayanagi w/ a poet and cellist. Some riotously meaty moments on that.

"Comprovisation" by Philip Thomas, from an excellent series of piano recitals given a cpl of years ago.

Bruce Springsteen & E Street Band "Magic" --- don't know what I was hoping for, but aside from track 3 a lot of it strikes me as very forgettable. I just don't like the way he sings lately, all low and mumbly.

Jason Isbell "Sirens of the Ditch" --- maybe not as strong as his DBT writing, but definitely great. 'Chicago Promenade' is my fave.
