Mr. Goodman, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

I sang "Never Gonna Give You Up" at karaoke the other night.

jaymc, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 20:00 (eighteen years ago)

I have never accidentally clicked on a link to a Rick Astley video. I probably wouldn't mind too much if I did.

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

Things Rick Astley is Never Gonna Do

1. Give you up.
2. Let you down.
3. Run around and desert you.
4. Say goodbye
5. Make you cry.
6. Tell a lie and hurt you.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Will always make me laugh. I don't care how old it is.

Noooooooooooooo!

ENBB, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 20:09 (eighteen years ago)

"Never Gonna Give You Up" seems preferable to at least 99% of what you're going to be linked to on the internets.

one year passes...

Man. I stopped over at my sister's house today because it is close to wear I work and she wanted to show me something she got her BF for Xmas. While I was there, she begged me to open my Xmas present. I opened it, and it was the original version of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat where it sounds like a garage rock band playing all the songs. I had told I was looking for it. I rejoiced. She said maybe we should listen to some of it now, that she was interested to hear what it sounded like.

I put it on her turntable which was all set up and "Never Gonna Give You Up" immediately began blasting at top volume. She had changed the label on the Rick Astley record (very expertly) to the label from the soundtrack.

The three of us danced.

Glad you liked the Xmas Rick Roll, Roxy. It was actually pretty simple if you have a color copier and a glue stick. I had always wanted to do an analog Rick Roll and I am sure this is the firts of many!

roxymuzak, I have that recording of Joseph on cassette and it's just as great as you think -- keep looking!

Guayaquil (eephus!), Sunday, 21 December 2008 03:46 (seventeen years ago)

No, I got the real record too! I no longer have to look.

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Sunday, 21 December 2008 03:46 (seventeen years ago)

I just placed the doctored album in the cover of the soundtrack, and put the real one in the rick astley cover to giver her later - after the joke was over.

The present was real, but it was a great opportunity for a priceless joke, too.

nijoli (ni jo leeeeeee), Sunday, 21 December 2008 04:12 (seventeen years ago)

It was so well executed. <3 xmas rickroll

i'm really shocked that rickrolls are still funny after like two years of rickrollage. but they are!

The snowman from the hilarious 'frosty' cartoons (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 21 December 2008 04:44 (seventeen years ago)

it will only get funnier and funnier, because the joke for me anyway is "omg this happened AGAIN"

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Sunday, 21 December 2008 04:45 (seventeen years ago)

Rickrolls are not generally still funny (they never were, really), but this is so creative as to be massively great.

TEENAGE DIALECTICS (libcrypt), Sunday, 21 December 2008 05:11 (seventeen years ago)

yes they are

they are funny every single time

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Sunday, 21 December 2008 05:37 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i don't think rickroll will ever get old for me

how about seeing a kid that looks like rick astley and getting the song in your head like an irl rickroll (this happened to me once lol)

ill c u n may Schwwwwwww (harbl), Sunday, 21 December 2008 05:40 (seventeen years ago)

The notion behind the roll of the rick is that you are forcing an awful song into someone's brain, but if

1. It doesn't stick in yr head, or
2. You don't find Rick A all that awful,

then it might as well be an AC/DC roll, you know?

RONG! The song does not get stuck in my head nor do I think it is particularly awful, but the traditional aspect of the joke itself is what keeps me loving it. An ACDC roll could potentially be equally funny.

rox qua rox (roxymuzak), Sunday, 21 December 2008 05:56 (seventeen years ago)

Well, I mean the usual link-click joke is that. The analog RR is totally another beast, like meta to the 3rd.
