i went to college in broome county (binghamton) and it's depressing but at least there's SOME life there -- most of this part of the state is pretty bleak.

get bent, Thursday, 8 November 2007 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

but it says something that bingo's closest "big" city to the south is scranton, pa (of the office fame).

Washington County -- it's beautiful I guess up by the Adirondacks & lake george but holy shit the little towns like Whitehall NY are depressed & depressing, looking like they never got over the 1930 depression.

my mom and dad met in Schenectady (workin for GE) so sentimental points there.

"Rubbish" kind of puts a finger on the scale, no?

Why is New York so freaking huge? It's bordered by Canada...and Pennsylvania! Sheesh.

New York is actually kinda small in landsize. It just looks big crammed up against Connecticut and Vermont.

I'd think the worst county would have to border PA.

for real. driving through florida ny (the one in montgomery county) made me sad, and i'm sure there are tons of places upstate that are just as depressing or worse.

i grew up in a suburb in schenectady county which wasn't nearly as bad as the city of schenectady itself, just like any other anonymous US suburb really but borderline rural in places and pretty ratty overall.

THe parts next to Vermont are pretty nice.

it might be small compared to, say, Texas, but it's big in our neighborhood - you have to go three states in any direction to find something bigger.
