So anyway has anyone else read this or watched the show? It's probably my favorite thing on Adult Swim right now.

I've only watched it enough to find it funly incomprehensible so far. Shows like this I need to keep up with otherwise it's all LOL is this guy supposed to be a demon, why is his girlfriend 13, that guy has great anime hair etc?

After getting a DV-R, I started recording it so I've now seen the first 32 episodes in order. Things that I found totally baffle-making before now make a lot more sense (ie, they actually show Ichigo's sister and Orihime and Chad seeing/fighting demons in critical episodes I missed, plus there was an encounter with a Soul Reaper I'd missed before the one where Rukia was captured and taken back, etc etc etc).

The basic storyline is straightforward enough (dude sees ghosts, ghost hunters from another dimension; one gets stuck here while saving his family and breaks some fundamental laws in her society in the process; when her peeps take her back for execution, dude and his friends go to her world to rescue her; cue a bazillion fights with Soul Reapers) but there are SO MANY CHARACTERS it's incredibly dizzy-making unless you do watch all of them in relatively rapid succession.

There's a completely hysterical scene in ep... 32? where Renji is having flashbacks to Rukia and himself in school, and there's one scene where they are standing next to each other and he is LITERALLY twice her height. She was pensively staring straight into his belly button; kind of ruined the angst of Rukia getting adopted by aristocracy and getting taken away from her classmates/friends.

btw this is still awesome and still incomprehensible (I can't tell you the names of the characters from the Soul Society except for Rukia, Renji, Aizen and Kenpachi without looking them up)

rewatching it again after 4 years and after the anime has officially ended

the second soul society arc is probably the best anime arc I've ever seen, or at least the best variation on the dragonball-z "get beat by dude to within an inch of your life, then magically come back twice as strong and beat the dude" variation

they started dragging things out after that so I stopped keeping up but now I get to watch all of them in one go

also I love how ichigo's sword is actually bono

hah I vaguely remember that? I stopped watching after the vizards, which is what the group in tracksuits were called I think? I just remember downloading the newest episode each week, eagerly putting it on, only to be subjected to "chad, ishida and inoue running through a big castle again"

I was really jazzed for Hueco Mundo and super super annoyed when it became a massively interminable slog. Also it was kind of annoying how they were all "Orihime is super powerful and important, let's make her a wimpy whining princess Ina castle who can only sob 'Ichiho...' in a halting, broken voice"

Lol "Ichiho", gonna just call him that from now on
