When you discipline your wife, for either misbehavior or maintenance it is best to start slow and warm up her bottom, spanking her with less intensity and not going full force right out of the gate.

There's a lot of this about, I think? The texts are very 0_o for sure. The fact that the site dan links to is a xtian one makes it seem a bit less weird & wtfish for some reason.

Read this book if you want an in-depth view. It is an excellent book - coming from a political position to which I'm sympathetic, but treating its subject with fairness & compassion. Also, it will scare the bejabbers out of you without getting all LOOK OUT THEY'RE TAKIN OVER about it.

yeah i've read some about the quiverfullers, or whatever they're called. spooky people, imo. i get the same weirdo vibe from the no-greater-joy folks. armchair psychology alert, but it really makes me wonder what kinds of childhoods they had themselves.

this is the thing though. yeah, lots of people got spankings, like a majority I'd guess, and they turn out fine. it's not, like child abuse, something that's probably going to leave lifelong scars. but that doesn't change the essential fact that the idea of disciplining a child by inflicting physical pain is kinda psycho - that it's been common practice for ages mainly just tells you that people are kinda dumb & crazy

it definitely is. but i really do think putting some kind of divine mandate behind it makes it worse, because it takes the responsibility off the parent -- "it's not me punishing you, it's GOD."
