Who was his girlfriend, who took care of him while he was dying, and later she became a famous or more famous actress, at least for a while? Keep thinking it was Jill Clayburgh, but she was Pacino's girlfriend. (What's she up to lately? In something recent, I think.)

dow, Friday, 9 November 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

it was Streep.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 9 November 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

Streep's been in a few movies since TDH, I think.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 9 November 2007 21:42 (eighteen years ago)

o man he rules

s1ocki, Friday, 9 November 2007 21:42 (eighteen years ago)

Clayburgh's in that new TV series w/ Donald Sutherland

Dr Morbius, Friday, 9 November 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

Clayburgh may deserve her own thread, but everyone'll vote for An Unmarried Woman.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Friday, 9 November 2007 21:58 (eighteen years ago)

It's pretty amazing that he made five features, and each of them is arguably a five-star film.

polyphonic, Friday, 9 November 2007 22:13 (eighteen years ago)

that's 25 stars.

No dis on Meryl, I had no idea it was her! Man, that really was way back, wasn't it? When I first became aware of her, she was married to Don Gummer, I think it was, and her contracts always included specifications for his sculpture studio, according to Time (or maybe Newsweek)(that's way back when people read Time and Newsweek, maybe even when they weren't in doctors' or dentists' lobbies)

dow, Saturday, 10 November 2007 01:16 (eighteen years ago)

Everything that makes Godfather 2 brilliant is Cazale or revolves around Cazale.

Noodle Vague, Saturday, 10 November 2007 01:20 (eighteen years ago)

It's pretty amazing that he made five features, and each of them is arguably a five-star film.

All of them nominated for Best Picture Oscar

I thought this thread was about the big glasses.

antexit, Saturday, 10 November 2007 18:30 (eighteen years ago)

The Deer Hunter is kinda crap.

Dr Morbius, Saturday, 10 November 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)

It's certainly the worst of the five, but there are a lot of enjoyable things about it, I think.

polyphonic, Saturday, 10 November 2007 18:40 (eighteen years ago)

I re-watched Dog Day Afternoon a couple of weeks ago. I think it's really strong for the first 45 minutes or so, but I don't know, for me it just seems to peter out after that. I love Buscemi in the documentary talking about how the Simpsons incorporated Cazale's Dog Day character into an episode.

clemenza, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 13:48 (fourteen years ago)

which episode?

iatee, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 13:50 (fourteen years ago)

I haven't seen it, but I think Buscemi's character and the Cazale lookalike are (surprise) robbing a bank--they show the clip in the documentary.

nine months pass...

Saw The Deer Hunter (took me a couple of installments) and when finished I thought it was a bit heavy-handed and maybe overly dramatic. But a few days later, I found myself thinking of some of the scenes. The Streep/De Niro reunion is great. Also, Walken spitting in De Niro's face. The town that Walken specifies when he calls home: Clairton, Pennsylvania. Really wanted to see more Cazale but understandable why not. Axel, who looks like an Allman Brothers roadie. De Niro so much better acting angry rather than happy. The forced ending.
