Since the good people at Criterion felt The Wiz worthy of the Collection, I decided to finally watch it. Inventive production design, but otherwise interminable. Michael Jackson and Nipsey Russell are technically well cast (unlike Diana Ross), but they're smothered by the bloat. And the songs are fucking terrible.

I once saw a shorter version of "The Wiz" performed at the local mostly white Catholic high school (maybe middle school!?) and ... oh boy. I can't remember if we sat through the whole thing.
