I work on High Holborn and can't see much from here - how big is 'huge'?

Fucking enormous, loading pics now.

Like a large building is on fire. Big old billowing clouds of grey smoke.

Derelict East Cross Centre bus station, says Arriva spokesman. Seems quite relaxed about the whole thing.

Phenomenal pictures from Sky and BBC helicopter cameras now showing. You can see the flames behind the thick black smoke when they zoom in.

There'll probably be another couple of fires along shortly.

It's all coming out of this huge depot building and doesn't look like it would spread anywhere. Though there is an ominous-looking gas container thing nearby.

I wonder if this is in a contentious area re: building for the Olympics...

I think the building was being demolished anyway in preparation for the Olympic building work, so this would be a rather stupid act of anti-Olympic arson.

Oh, I think I've got the wrong end of onimo's stick, but I still can't find the right end.

It was just on the BBC1 lunchtime news - the warehouse was empty and due to be knocked down anyway.

I was thinking scam rather than protest. It's amazing how many buildings go on fire when something new is going to be built next to them sometime soon.

Well, at least the new London Overground got off to a good start...

LONDON (AP) - Authorities say a recycling plant has caught fire in east London. A fire brigade spokeswoman says the building is «100 percent alight.
British police identified the blaze as an industrial fire but gave no further details Saturday. Sky News television reported explosions and a large column of smoke.
A spokeswoman for London's ambulance service says there are no immediate reports of any casualties.

Both spokeswomen released the information on condition of anonymity in line with official policy.
