Construction work in or around NYC ?

Has anyone worked at a construction job in New York? Was it a Union or Non-Union Job? What was the pay scale? Were the working condition safe? I work on a pipeline construction job, and my girlfriend was transferred with her work to New York. I was wondering if any one has adviced or stories about NY constuction work, since I will be moving there soon.

Wrong place to ask really, have you not realised that ILX is the home of media pantywaists.

I thought maybe, at least one or two people had attempted manual labor.

I did a couple of summers in NYC through high school and college, through my stepdad, who was already in a crew. They were non-union. I'd guess he'd bring in about $60-70,000 in 1992 dollars with about 10 years experience or so. My rate as a laborer was about $10 per hour.
