Did any of you ever play this game?

http://www.javapuppy.com/infocom/GamesDocs/Wishbringer/wishbringer.jpg

It was a text-based, Zork adventure game about a magical stone that grabted wishes. It came with a book, a map, a letter, and most tangily (to my memory) a glow-in-the-dark mock-up of the Wishbringer itself.

Hilltop

You're on a hilltop overlooking the seaside village of Festeron.

Autumn Almanac, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 05:01 (eighteen years ago)

I have the novelization! It's odd.

f. hazel, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 08:01 (eighteen years ago)

BATTAGS, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 08:40 (eighteen years ago)

Give me a link, Battags!

Also, I wish I had the novelization. What's it like?

IIRC, the world is pretty static in this one, Autumn.

This was supposed to be an easy game for kids and beginners, but the puzzles would be considered difficult by today's standards. I beat it with a few hints.

Is this the one where the world changed halfway through?
After the introductory part, you climb up a hill, and when you come down everything has turned eeeeeviiill.

THIS GAME WAS SO FUCKING AWESOME

OTM, I had forgotten this. Also, when you leave the Magick Shoppe everything becomes dark and foggy (when the witch touches your head).

Is there some concensus on the best Infocom game? It has to be between Zork and Hitchiker's for me.

wanko ergo sum, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

I will always rep for Hitchhiker's although Leather Goddesses of Phobos was also great (when I was 11).

HI DERE, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 21:29 (eighteen years ago)

My vote's for Lurking Horror on this one.

robertwolf8080, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

is it supposed to look like a vagina?

Maria :D, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 23:47 (eighteen years ago)

... xpost?

HI DERE, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 23:48 (eighteen years ago)

xpost abanana - i was heavily into zork et al and also distinctly remember that wishbringer was supposed to be an 'intro to infocom' game, and i skipped it as a result. it's kinda fun now though, if not easy.

BATTAGS, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 07:36 (eighteen years ago)

The original Zork is awesomely poetic! I just finished playing that shit.

roxymuzak, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 07:37 (eighteen years ago)

Leather Goddesses of Phobos was the first thing i ever did on a computer i think

chaki, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 08:05 (eighteen years ago)

Wishbringer was definitely the first thing I did.

Yes! This is the one then.

Zork I is my favourite, probably because I had it on the Commodore 64 when I was little, but also because it builds a fascinating and absorbing world with few words.
