not a very good movie.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

favourite, or who is dirtiest?

, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

gotta be Trini Lopez; when his agent tried to negotiate a raise mid-shoot, they killed his character (offscreen)!

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

ha, didn't know that

Telly Savalas - his performance as Maggott helps add interest to a first half that would have been duller otherwise. A bit like his appearance in the final scene of "Capricorn One" - "I think you're a pervert!"

Cassavetes or Savalas

Joe, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 17:52 (eighteen years ago)

I need to sit down and watch this all the way through, have only seen in parts.

Laurel, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 17:53 (eighteen years ago)

Morbs sadly OTM. It's ridiculously long for the material.

milo z, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 18:15 (eighteen years ago)

and Aldrich made a really terrific war movie, Attack!

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 18:18 (eighteen years ago)

Also docked points for bad chixflix joke in one of those Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan movies where the dudes cry about this movie instead of whatever movie the chix0rz are crying about.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 18:29 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, the afterlife of this film is 60% due to Nora Ephron

Fun Facts from IMDb.com

Trivia

* The scene between Tom Hanks and Victor Garber crying over the movie The Dirty Dozen was completely improvised during the take.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

huh? it's on one cable channel or another at least 1x a week, and has been for ever. it had tv longevity long before whatever movie that was

yeah it's not that great, but the cast is. i voted marvin, and i think telly savalas is pretty bad, tbh

i link it up with 'stripes' in my head: war movies about 'rebels' that confound the dad hierarchy of the military but do exactly what they're supposed to in the end.

gff, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

I think Morbius was joking.

Maggott easily wins - "it's judgement day, sinners!!"

Oh, and:

"Suh? Do we have to eat with niggahs?"
"What's going on, sir?"
"Oh, the gentleman from the South had a question about the dining arrangements. He and his comrades are discussing place settings now."

Bronson kills with the last time, through.

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 15 November 2007 08:57 (eighteen years ago)

Oh shit, I forgot about Sutherland's character inspecting the troops. That scene kills.

"Where are you from, son?...Never heard of it."

eleven years pass...

I'd never seen this movie before. I was shocked that it was a totally unjustified 2 1/2 hours long, and it takes an hour and 45 minutes of that before they even launch their ridiculous mission. Anyway, I thought it was almost embarrassingly artless and pretty dull, but obviously the movie's influence and legacy looms large through everything from "The A*Team" to "Inglorious Basterds." But the movie that I was reminded of the most was "Stripes," of all things, right down to the ridiculous action conclusion.
