I had a fight with my pal because he thinks I don't try hard enough at a bunch of things. I do enough to get by and graduate. Who cares how long it takes? Also he accused me of only having friends I met through him and that I don't try hard enough to meet new people. Even if the former half of that is untrue (which it is), why should he care whether I try to meet new people or not? Why should friends care if you like to stay indoors and do relatively nada? I'm sure yall been in similar situations whether it was through college, work, life, whatever. There's always someone who thinks you should try your best at everything and not waste time. What gives?

Whatever you put your hand to, do it with all your might. I am sure you've seen how this applies to masturbation. Start putting to work in the rest of your life.

coming from a person called Aimless
― CaptainLorax, Thursday, 15 November 2007 01:59 (eighteen years ago)
If doing enough just to get by keeps you (and any dependants) happy, then fuck 'em. If it's secretly eating away at your soul that you should be doing more, then don't fuck 'em.
There's also this thread:
Taking it easy as over-riding life principal: c or d?
Perhaps there is some wisdom there.
― Alba, Thursday, 15 November 2007 01:59 (eighteen years ago)
yeah it's harder for me to work than other people. I have to deal with tons of crap and It affects me more than lots of people. I just rather have peace of mind -- meaning I don't do as much school work as I should and I avoid confrontation sometimes. I'm probably not the only ilxor with mental issues.
― CaptainLorax, Thursday, 15 November 2007 02:22 (eighteen years ago)
You get out of things what you put in them. I think that's pretty much true.

Aimless, Dan Savage is all the time harping on how masturbating (male) with a "death grip on your penis," can make it really hard to get off with only the "more subtle sensations" of a vagina (Maqc Almond to thredd? but maybe not this one?).

― Abbott, Thursday, 15 November 2007 04:03 (eighteen years ago)
how mature would that be. we'd be better off with a poll [lazy/not lazy]. either way I shouldn't expect insight on certain topics. but, since abbott is correct, go right ahead with the zings, I won't stop you.
― CaptainLorax, Thursday, 15 November 2007 04:19 (eighteen years ago)
The question is irrelevant, by and large. GI/GO.
― libcrypt, Thursday, 15 November 2007 05:31 (eighteen years ago)
"seuss lol" What means it?
― Heave Ho, Thursday, 15 November 2007 05:32 (eighteen years ago)
No, Cpnlrx, there is a thread that compiles examples of "lazy zings" like "lol jaymc.xls" or obvious things to pick on, not zings about those who prefer to be lazy.
― Abbott, Thursday, 15 November 2007 05:35 (eighteen years ago)
he was saying 'lol u have naem of Dr. Seuss character," which is abt as big a zing as "lol u wearing a backpack to school" or "way to have hair" or something.
― Abbott, Thursday, 15 November 2007 05:37 (eighteen years ago)
Different definitions of 'getting by' apply though.
Once we were content with having a full stomach, grooming and idly wondering where our next banana was coming from. Now us smart monkeys have higher expectations of what the basic life involves.

A lot of ambitious people are real jerks, y'know?
― Noodle Vague, Thursday, 15 November 2007 08:10 (eighteen years ago)
And there's no such thing as "wasting" time.
― Noodle Vague, Thursday, 15 November 2007 08:11 (eighteen years ago)
I agree w/that, spending as much time as I do staring idly into space in reverie and all.
― Abbott, Thursday, 15 November 2007 20:00 (eighteen years ago)
Do what you do, man. Just maybe don't expect to be friends with people to whom it's important to make things happen, etc. Or at least expect to have sweeping disagreements of approach/scale with them, and figure out a way to deal with it.
― Laurel, Thursday, 15 November 2007 20:04 (eighteen years ago)
I mean, personally I think it's a dud as the question is framed, but as you mention that you deal with "tons of crap" maybe your priorities lie there.
I'd rather work hard at things I give a shit about, and be up front about not giving a shit about the other stuff. It simplifies expectations a whole lot.
― Laurel, Thursday, 15 November 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, I agree with the lot of you. Sucks though, that a friend I've had for a few years tries to change me since he mentions how much he hates Jehovah's Witnesses and all. His definition of 'for the better' is different than mine and I wish he would accept that because when he calls me lazy and etcetera it comes off as spite rather than a helping hand to change to be a more proactive person. (He's a wise-ass and spite is befitting of him I believe).
Another thing someone mentioned when I talked about this with them is that some people think they are better than you because they don't watch tv. This isn't directly related but I see parallels.
― CaptainLorax, Friday, 16 November 2007 02:03 (eighteen years ago)
yeah, i know what this thread is about. i don't wanna work any harder at anything than i have to. i just don't really give a shit, and i can't see why i should. i just wanna jack off and eat doritos and get drunk and listen to wham!.

Depends on the goal. If it's a uni course and you only need to pass, only do what it takes to pass comfortably.
I finished a degree in June by doing what was required plus a bit more. If extra work was explicitly labelled "HD work," I didn't bother with it. 40 hours for another 6% of the mark? No thanks. In the end I got a degree and a ~72% average, which is what I wanted.
If you're working your way up in a company or writing a book, give it everything you've got, for obvious reasons. It's all about the goal.

Crap I need a wanky suit and a mic strapped to my face for that drivel.
Apropos of nothing, I am so using "way to have hair" as an insult from now on.
― Trayce, Friday, 16 November 2007 04:21 (eighteen years ago)
What do Jehovah's Witnesses have to do with anything? Have a birthday, already. Go to someone else's wedding. Live a little.
