The Artist's License

Does making art make it more acceptable to use or abuse substances? Generally, drug use and related reckless behaviors are considered less than desirable. But when it comes to art of various kinds, does society waive responsibility? My parents listened to Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan -- still do -- but they wouldn't touch a joint with a 10-foot stick. Does the work produced alter the ethics of such indulgent behavior?

I don't know, it seems like there's often a correlation between artists:drungqs, BUT I don't think any more so than any other demographic.

hmm i'm not sure. maybe you're right. but i think it seems like it's MORE OK for an artist to be all doped up than it is for just some blue collar joe shmo

They do a lot of fucking dugs, I'll tell you, and each is okay with the other's drug use.

ever since i stopped doing acid my creativity has plummeted to almost zero productivity.

So yeah i'll give artists a bit of slack for killing themselves whilst at the same time producing quality produce for us all to enjoy. hurrah!

Ste, Monday, 26 November 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

when/why did you stop doing acid?

Surmounter, Monday, 26 November 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)
