Talking about my car again, this thread is for bitching about police. I just got a ticket for a rolling stop. While I was pulled over, about twelve other cars (approx 50% of those thru the intersection) all took rolling stops. Fuck that.

I got arrested for taking photos on Miltary Land, I have gotten alot of jaywalking tickets and i was once accused of rape.

However they helped with 3 fag bashing cases so i do not hate them.

anthony, Sunday, 22 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

my car died again. that fucking 500$ car works 75% of the time. anyway..pulled over for not having a front lisence plate (wtf! half the cars don't) and cops kick me off the beach at night. and they used to bust me on smoking. anything after about 2AM on a major road here is going to get you shit when your a teen. hope to have more fun with campus security next year. fuck tha police.

I always flip the fingers at the pigz when I roll past. But I do it under the car window so they can't see it.

Campus police once busted my ex-girlfriend for sitting in a tree. No joke.

When I was 15 and hanging out in good ol' downtown Shelburne Falls, MA with my stupid friends while they smoked their hand-rolled clove cigarettes, the town hired a cop just to harass us. They gave him a bicyle and told him to ride around to all our hangouts and tell us to move along. I was once pulled over because a cop thought my windows were illegally tinted. I have been accused by cops of anal sodomy and glue-sniffing. Fuck the fuzz.

Otis Wheeler, Monday, 23 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But have you ever participated in a gothic punk school shooting? Bet that'd gettem REAL mad.

Josh, Monday, 23 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

They would probably just tell us to move along.

Otis Wheeler, Monday, 23 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Campus police once busted my ex-girlfriend for sitting in a tree. No joke.

When I was about eight, I climbed up a tree with one of my friends and a policeman told us to get down. We did but as soon as he went, we went back up. We thought we were being really rebellious but looking back, we weren't.

Once, my brother was walking home from school and a policeman told him he shouldn't be smoking whilst in school uniform because it was against school rules. My brother explained that whilst, as a member of the Metropolitan Police, it was the policeman's job to enforce the laws of the country, it wasn't his job to enforce the rules of Tiffin Boys School. The policeman was a bit annoyed by this response but knew it was right and left my brother alone.

jamesmichaelward, Monday, 23 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

When I was 17 I watched several of my friends being beaten up by policemen. One of them was strangled (up against a wall, hands on throat, proper strangling) until he was unconscious. Not sure that particular method of restraint is in the training manual.

Madchen, Monday, 23 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think it is in Spain but that's a different story.

It'd be worse to be accused of non-anal sodomy.

Greg, Monday, 23 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think I was busted for public drunkenness on St. Patrick's Day, but we lost track of who was getting which tickets and we tore them up. They wouldn't stop harrassing us, we were like, listen up, it's St. Patrick's Day. You HAVE to drink, it's the law!

I've never really gotten much of anything though. My mom's been arrested but that's to be expected from her. I got picked up once for taking my shirt off when I was walking home, I'm all it's fucking hot, and they're all, you can't do that, it's against the law, and I'm all if I was a guy it wouldn't be, and there all nope, and I'm all wouldn't you rather see me naked than that guy (insert pointing at some really horrible enormous man here), and the guy was all laughing and he's like, I can't answer that, I'm a professional (whatever that's supposed to mean), and he let me off. My mom was all, yeah, fuck the police, you tell those sexist pig bastards! Weirdo.

Ally, Monday, 23 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was walking along the railroad tracks one night, and an officer shined his light in my face and asked me if I was trying to steal a train! The police are totally useless, but I have no problems with cops for the most part. You've gotta keep dumb people employed somehow.

Kris, Monday, 23 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I got a speeding ticket in high school for trying to avoid being late for first period. When I told the officer I was speeding because I didn't want to be late, he said, "Well, if you hadn't been speeding, you wouldn't have been as late as you're going to be now." I said, "That is extraordinarily unhelpful." When I told my first period teacher what happened, he laughed and laughed. I cursed the police with every fiber of my being. He laughed some more.

Dan Perry, Monday, 23 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am pinefox o'the day and I must know THIS: what is a rolling stop?

mark s, Monday, 23 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Rolling stop = Instead of coming to a COMPLETE stop at a stop sign, you coast ever-so-slowly towards the stopping area, but don't actually cease moving. It's nitpicky & dubious to be busted for such a thing.

Of course, I was once pulled over for passing a parked school bus with its STOP sign sticking out (which I didn't see). Meanwhile, 95 other cars zoomed by while the bus (parked in an alcove beside a school) would stick its STOP sign out intermittently to allow kids to get on board. No ticket for them, $450 fine for me. Were it not for The Boss being a former cop, I'd have bought THE worst Christmas gifts ever bought.

Police officers generally are nice people, but they do tend to take the law out of context in many situations. Once, when I was a bit younger, I was at a party drinking with about 50 or so other college students. The party was over at around 1 am, and everyone had practically left at that point. Maybe five or six people remained behind, some passed out drunk, others sticking around to help clean up (that was me in this case). Anyway, not five minutes after I returned to help clean up, the police show up, break down the door and shove two people to the floor, then proceed to dish out tickets to five people passed out drunk in the living room. The two owners of the house were handcuffed for (presumably) resisting entry by a police officer into their house (a term called probable cause; I believe they that a keg was outside on the back porch). Now, correct me if I am wrong, but if two people break into MY house and push me aside and then HANDCUFF ME for resisting that is a little fucked up. I received a citation for $125 and paid it a week later in Flagstaff Municipal Court. My buddy, who received a $187 ticket and spent the night in jail, had to sponsor a "Run-a-Thon" to earn enough money to pay off the ticket before his parents visited the following weekend. I pled guilty to "underage" drinking and went on my merry way. But my opinion of police hasn't changed and will never change. They are thugs and worthless assholes and they can go fuck themselves.

Regards,

Paul dunric@yahoo.com

If you're ever arrested, and the piggies read you your rights, they'll ask you if you understand them.

Always say "No".

It surprises them. Then, no matter what they ask you, or say to you, keep your mouth shut. Say absolutely NOTHING. Whatever you say, will get twisted into making you look guilty. Total silence is the best, safest policy.

"against a wall, hands on throat, proper strangling) until he was unconscious. Not sure that particular method of restraint is in the training manual."
As far as I know it is. Had to ref too many games in the mens league involving the local cops. They play on pure intimidation. Hit their keeper and your as good as gone. And the reason I think that was the strangle hold they are taught as I saw one of them lift an offending striker by the neck against the post. He was kicked out for the rest of the year for that stunt. Not a cop fan when it comes to football.

Yeah Fuck them. Pigs is on my case. I have no record so there's no reason for it. But they are harassing me. It's a snooty suburb in northeast US and they have nothing better to do. In the past it was small like pulling over my car for little nothings, like having a burnt out bulb over my back plate- sometimes twice in the same trip. Also, extra-hard enforcement of piddling little town by-laws around my house that most people ignore, like parking on grass. But this week they have been really nasty. I got pulled over while walking because "it's 1 am and you look suspicious because you're wearing a backpack." Then tonight, I got pulled over on a BIKE and got 3 tickets for "no headlight, bad brakes, and wrong side of the road" even though it was a BLOCK from my house and no cars on the road. Now I know the town judge will do whatever the cops ask, so no help there. Mystical oracles of Ilx, is there anywhere else I could look to appeal about being harassed and to have tickets thrown out?

last night me and the posse rolled into a parking lot to smoke up when this pick-up truck rolled in after us. We sat for awhile, assuming the driver lived in one of the apartments. Instead the guy sat there forever, than stepped out and glowered at our car. It was a pig. After rolling down the window to claim ignorance about the illegality of our parking, we bolted. Once we found a more secluded area and got wasted I was fine, but my pals became even MORE paranoid. Fucking pigs. Since all the students are out of town they've totally got nothing better to do than harass some harmless, mellow townies.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 27 December 2003 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

That sucks, sucka. When my former boyfriend had a mohawk he would always get harrassed by cops. My brother as been pulled over slammed on the ground, cuffed etc for doing nothing but driving through the suburbs listening to rap music. And having brown skin.

Viva La Sam (thatgirl), Sunday, 28 December 2003 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

That sucks more! I haven't been slammed, strangled or given the Anal Sodomy. I did get yanked off my bike and hustled down but at least I disobeyed their fascist pig orders first. They told me to walk, but I rode off instead, (what the fuck, it's my transportation) so they had themselves a little hillbilly car-bike chase.

After looking around for someont to complain to I found this thingy called "citizen review board" to call up Monday for some probably useless advice.

Anthony, don't inject weed, drugs are bad mmkay?

Time with my girl I spent it well
I had to be strong for my woman
(You must be joking, O man you must be joking)
She needed to be protected

The good life was so elusive
Handouts, they got me down
I had to regain my self-respect
So I got into camouflage

The girls they love to see you shoot

I love a man in a uniform

To have ambitions was my ambition
But I had nothing to show for my dreams
Time with my girl I spent it well
(You must be joking, O man you must be joking)

The girls they love to see you shoot

I love a man in a uniform

I need an order
(Shoot, shoot)
I need an order

Eh, what kind of grilling danger is there on this? It's not difficult for a politician to talk around -- respect the court's decision, find situation "troubling," say it speaks to precisely the larger problems you're running for office to correct, proclaim ultimate vision of trust and hope and mutual respect between communities and those who police them

- "But do you think the decision was the wrong one?"
- "I'm not a judge, and I didn't sit through the trial."

Judge's statement to the NYT: "Those people, they don't even talk right, I could hardly understand them! And get to the POINT, already. They just don't make any sense, throw out the testimony."

Laurel, Friday, 25 April 2008 18:30 (eighteen years ago)

I should actually reframe my knee-jerk statement from above to fit the facts better: it's not "Don't Frighten Police" that we're hearing, it's a much richer Catch-22 -- "Don't Be Frightened of Dudes Approaching You With Guns (Because They May Be Cops Who Will Shoot You)"

nabisco, Friday, 25 April 2008 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

It's just irritating that we're asked to accept an insane margin of incompetence and error (and sheer covered-up malice) in police forces: the basic deal remains "in our efforts to police you were are probably going to murder a few of you along the way, and now that everyone knows that there's not so much point to even trying to minimize the instance of that, so our advice is to be middle-class and white and look as harmless as possible"

is this a real quote? cuz um, if so lolz that sentence isn't grammatically CORRECT

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 25 April 2008 19:01 (eighteen years ago)

No, what he actually said was this:

He added that many of the prosecution’s witnesses, including Mr. Bell’s friends and the two wounded victims, were simply not believable. “At times, the testimony of those witnesses just didn’t make sense,” the judge said.

...from which I just kind of extrapolated.

Laurel, Friday, 25 April 2008 19:01 (eighteen years ago)

oh never mind

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 25 April 2008 19:02 (eighteen years ago)

anyway cops are racist murderers shockah

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 25 April 2008 19:02 (eighteen years ago)

Hey she's cuet.

Single, too! Hey wait

I think the nonsensical testimony bit refers somewhat to actual conflicting statements and confusions, but I'm still skeptical of the whole list of problems given in his statement: obviously the burden of proof is going to cut against the prosecution, but he seems to have been ready to discard testimony based on the kind of confusion that's just a given in a situation like this, along with other factors (like criminal convictions and witnesses "with an interest in the outcome of the trail") that are equally just ... kind of a given.

The statement also doesn't really go into what the legal lines are between the criminal charges and lesser non-criminal negligence/incompetence/etc., so it's hard to tell what determinations were made about that, and how much he just kinda tossed the prosecution's narrative as incoherent and untrustworthy!

nabisco, Friday, 25 April 2008 19:25 (eighteen years ago)

It's kind of a maxim that if the prosecution's narrative is incoherent and untrustworthy the defendant's going to walk. It also looked like the DA fucked the case up. Trying a case like this for seven weeks is going to lead to a lot of chances for reasonable doubt.

Bill Magill, Friday, 25 April 2008 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

amazing that the DA would fuck up a case against policemen

El Tomboto, Friday, 25 April 2008 19:41 (eighteen years ago)

in case she won't put out?

milo z, Friday, 25 April 2008 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

Well, obviously, to that first part -- what's hard for me to sort out from the statement is how much that incoherence/untrustworthiness has to do with factual inconsistencies and how much of it stemmed from unchangeable things about the situation itself (e.g., the facts that people with criminal records were the ones involved, or that witnesses wound up with an interest in the outcome of the trial due to, umm, having been shot)

nabisco, Friday, 25 April 2008 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

and the fact that in any case involving the prosecution of police officers the DA is going to dump a couple of sacks on one side of the courtroom while the NY FOOP goes out and finds one of the better defensive dream teams the city has to offer

Apparently even Swedish cops can't resist the hypnotic beats of The Knife.

Looking again at the Guardian list of (overwhelmingly left and environmental) political groups the cops have infiltrated - the ones we know about - this one really stands out https://t.co/MW4FvYPbNG pic.twitter.com/LmwVx6l1JP

cops do a lot of standing around don't they?

these fuckers have been across the street, just standing around for almost an hour, blabbing about god knows what, putting on a big-dick show. god i hate them.

the reason they are there is because someone had a medical emergency and was carried out on a stretcher by the emts, who did their job in fifteen minutes and then left.

not the cops though! they can never just leave.

fuck the police and fuck anyone who supports current levels of police involvement in regular community service situations like medical emergencies, and everything else as well.

ugh now two neighbors have approached and they're having a pow-wow. GTFO!
