What's your type?

When choosing a partner do you have a 'type' that you tend to stick to or have all your partners held completely different attributes?

Penny Lane, Wednesday, 6 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Start discussion now.

Penny Lane, Wednesday, 6 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not enough data. (Cue the tiny violins...)

Ron Hudson, Wednesday, 6 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My friends would say I had an incredibly predictable type. Not entirely untrue.

electric sound of jim, Wednesday, 6 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

+2 dexterity. +2 stamina.

BAAAAAXXXHHH TA!

Brian MacDonald, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Abt 80wpm.

Andrew L, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Garamond Roman.

Edna Welthorpe, Mrs, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Eh, I always preferred the sans serif ones myself. Plain vanilla, but easier to read. Helvetica, maybe.

geeta, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

actually tests point to serif fonts being easier to read than sans-serif, in general. the serifs help to distinguish the letters

michael, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No physical type, but it is important that they hate me.

N., Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Michael is right, but those studies were talking about ink on paper. I wonder if it's diff on screen.

Edna's type = classic. What would be a more indie type?

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This is something I always find out afterwards - they invariably own a copy of 'Shooting Rubberbands at the stars' by Edie Brickell. CAn't say I've ever cared for it that much.

These days they also all own that bloody Morcheeba album. Hey ho.

misterjones, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Indie type = Lucida Black.

Edna Welthorpe, Mrs, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Total turn-off: comic sans.

geeta, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Everyone I have been out with has been has been pretty different in terms of physical attributes, so I'm not sure if I have a type or not.

I have been attracted to really skinny indie boys, but I have hardly ever really wanted to be with them. So I don't know if that really counts...

Nicole, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

lucida roXoR. i use lucida console for my coding. nice readable monospace.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tahoma!

katie, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

really skinny indie boys

I'm starting to get a bit Tom-ish on this. Indie music is not skinny boy accessorising! Or is it?

N., Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think you'll find that I'm living proof that it isn't.

chris, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Don't have a clue what my type is. There's hope for you all yet.

Ronan, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

due to my lack of confidence in pulling, my type is quite often sort of girl who makes it quite plain that she fancies me. Apart from once when I actually went for it and went out with her for 5 years. The usual type has led to some horrible horrible mistakes.

chris, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Three headed monsters.

Pete, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

not quite, but nearly.

chris, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm starting to get a bit Tom-ish on this. Indie music is not skinny boy accessorising! Or is it?

I know, I'm just cruelly sticking to stereotypes and objectifying men. I'm evil that way.

Nicole, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Recently me and Pete stayed up late with several bottles of wine and the topic of My Type came up. I think we concluded that my type was: a) male b) taller than me and c) mentalists (only kidding lads).

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Chris you are in q.good shape, manly-looking and most importantly VERY TALL. Loads of women go mental for this (sorry shorties, I'll gee you up later). Also, you are a lovely bloke. Get going!

N., Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That was the worst gee up I have ever seen! 'you are in q. good shape' - charming! 'Get going' - eh? Women are much better at this, if I am whingeing to girl friends they say constructive things like 'you're bloody gorgeous, he'd be a CRAZED FOOL to turn you down!'

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Problem with that is you might end up with SEMI-CRZED FOOLS who are in reality just as bad.

Pete, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry Chris.

N., Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

*sigh*

chris, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Chris, I seriously do think you are a good catch and one thing I forgot to say is that even if you don't feel confident, you project that air, so the battle is half won. Please don't resort to sex tourism.

N., Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'A good catch'? Oh dear.

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Please don't resort to sex tourism" would make a great song title.

Nicole, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nicky D. proved to be a mad great-aunt by SCIENCE!

Dan Perry, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

He probably wears bright coral lipstick and insists on a kiss on the cheek.

Nicole, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Emma WILL YOU PLEASE STOP QUEERING MY PITCH.

N., Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It is not MY fault if YOUR PITCH IS QUEER.

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Stop treating the queerness of my pitch as an ineffable quality YOU ANOMIC INDIVIDUALIST.

N., Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

For a moment I thought the above P was a B.

Sam, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, I could see how you'd confuse the two. Especially in regards to N.

Nicole, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Don't call me names you really skinny indie boy.

I am afraid I'm a bit excitable this afternoon after scoffing a large back of pick 'n' mix. I thought I could take the E numbers but clearly I am getting too old.

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like eating pick n mix while you're "buying" it. Or putting empty bags on the scales and seeing they cost a pound or something. trying to hold the bag while its on the weight, filling your pockets with sweets. I'm no thief cos it's all fair game in pick n mix.

Ronan, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's true: pick 'n' mix is a jungle and only the strong survive etc. Emma, for example, eats her pick 'n' mix from the back of a vanquished pick 'n' mix foe.

Tim, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

All this talk of Pick'n'Mix reminds of the 2nd World War where they used to have Pick'n'Mix false teeth in Woolworths. Happy days.

Pete, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I AM NOT AN INDIE BOT

N., Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There was always some bastard heavy thing that you'd get thinking it looked great and then it tasted like shit.

Ronan, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

my type is quite often sort of girl who makes it quite plain that she fancies me

Chris has the right idea here. That's my excuse anyway.

And Humanist 521.

Graham, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

WWII? Happy days? That's the kind of comment that gets a fellow the reputation for being grumpy, Pete.

Tim, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BOY

N., Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dastoor in BOY / BOT AI style confusion. At least everyone's agreed he's indie.

Tim, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What I don't get with pick 'n' mix is how you think you are getting just a couple of each sweetie but then you find that you have HUNDREDS of the crappest thing i.e. those white chocolate buttons with coloured dots on them.

Anyway can we stop talking about it now it's making me feel sick. Do you think pick 'n' mix is a good way of lining your stomach?

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dastoor in BOY / BOT AI style confusion. At least everyone's agreed he's indie.

Yes, quite. Nick would be FANTASTIC if he were actually a Duran Duran robot, but he's just indie.

Nicole, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, Nick wuold be terrifying as a robot. I do not have type myself. I just say no to everything.

alix, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Robots are better than people! It's the misspelling of arbitrary that's terrifying.

Nicole, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ANOMIC INDIVIDUALIST BOT!

Mmm, pick'n'mix - the paradox of consumerism in pretty wrappers. So much choice, so little quality... But then, the coffee cream, and the chocolate limes...

Ellie, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

White chocolate mice!!!!!!

Ronan, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I had 3 of those. Well one was pink and allegedly strawberry flavoured but by that point I was in such a whirl of artificial flavours I didn't notice. Also cola bottles, cherry cola bottles, pink foam shrimps, liquorice allsorts, bonbons..... urgghhh.

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Shrimps? SHRIMPS?? Eurgh. What's wrong with a nice Swedish fish?

Pyth, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Liquorice allsorts - mmmmm. I'm going to get some on my next break. No pick and mix at the petrol station unfortunately. Well, unless I was prepared to spend £20.

Jonnie, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

allsorts = yeuch, nasty liquorice

I like those fizzy cherries, them nice.

chris, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Liquorice is great! To attempt to get back on topic, it is MY TYPE of pick 'n' mix sweetie.

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mmmmm, Topic.

Jonnie, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

all woolies pick'n'mix are grate. what have you got against "jazzies"? (the little white buttons with 100s'n'1000s in)

Alan T, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

topics should be bigger, the size of the new double decker to be precise.

chris, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well their name for starters. Is that what they are called? Ha ha ha. I dunno, I'm just not crazy about white chocolate.

And this was not Woolies pick 'n' mix it was TOP SHOP pick 'n' mix NUM NUM.

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There IS no such thing as white chocolate. That thrice damned confection of sugar and whatever else does NOT count.

Pyth, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Topics should be boycotted, just because of the awful radio adverts.

Anna, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Piff how did you get on with TAYTO? Duty free yes or duty free no?

Tim, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You're not wrong about those radio adverts. Imagine - if you will - whether you fancy someone or not neither being predicated on looks or brane but on if the fella works in the Topic factory. Grrrr.

Pete, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aww Tim I haven't been back to that pub since your rec. Never fear, Taytos are on my list now and I couldn't possibly go the Local and FORGET them, no becos they're in a huge box on the countertop.

Pyth, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

They are good, but I wouldn't say they were so good as to justify a special trip to the pub, so fair play to you. Of course now I am the very model of a teetoal bore the snacks are all I have to look forward to in the alehouse. Sob.

Tim, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So clearly everyone's type here is a snack-gobbling drinker down the pub.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My type is the snacks and drinks. to hell with the witty repartee and actual human contact.

Ronan, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ned was there some confusion over that? I thought the Beer Nuts and pretzels were a giveaway.

Pyth, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

times new roman's eat Snickers.

jel --, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ned was there some confusion over that? I thought the Beer Nuts and pretzels were a giveaway.

Hurrah for Pyth! :-)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

squares, dorks, creeps
