When I head down south next month this will be one of my first goals. Cozy Corner, Memphis, here I come!

Euler, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 19:16 (eighteen years ago)

My wife hassles me because I prefer pumpkin over sweet potato. How to shot wife?

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 19:16 (eighteen years ago)

Burroughs did it with a gun and an apple.

jaymc, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 19:17 (eighteen years ago)

Warning: mini-mallows that are more than a decade old do not toast well under the broiler and have a tendency to flare up.

Aimless, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 19:20 (eighteen years ago)

I can assail this pretty easily: it contains sweet potatoes.

(There are pretty much only two foodstuffs in life I just flat-out hate: olives and sweet vegetables. Beets, sweet potatoes, squashes and whatnot. Although I did have a butternut squash soup the other day that I did not entirely mind.)

Jordan, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

Jordan, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

Dog + sweet potatoes = comedy gold

Abbott, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

Sweet potatoes are only bad if you mess with them too much.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

I don't like sweet potatoes!

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

Although I did have a butternut squash soup the other day that I did not entirely mind

i make a great butternut soup that comes out totally savory without the slightest hint of sweetness. i think i'm going to make it now.

carne asada, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

I thought I was the only person who hated olives.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

impudent harlot, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 20:37 (eighteen years ago)

from what I hear from other parents these days, most kids don't like olives. So you folks aren't alone.

Euler, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

i cannot understand the sweet potato hate.

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 20:43 (eighteen years ago)

I cannot understand the sweet potato love. It tastes like damp sponges.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

butter nut squash soup = yummz

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

The thing is that most people do funky shit to them that makes them nasty. Just cook them and put butter on them. Or make them into pies.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

sweet potato fries = delicious

omar little, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

Never tried that. Could be good.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

the key is to get them baked rather than fried, actually

omar little, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

even just baked sweet potato without butter is fantastic (esp. the skins)

Euler, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

Sweet potato fries are DELICIOUS. And good with beer.

Euler otm.

Texas Roadhouse not otm: Their "loaded sweet potato" side is a baked sweet potato w/as many marshmallows as yr avg. thxgiving casserole dish and like a half cup of melted caramel. OMG do not want dentures after eating a "Side." I asked for the reg. sweet potao w/butter. The waitress came w/entree, which had plain sweet potato (THANK GOD) and no butter. I asked for butter and she gave me this look like, "Who the hell IS this person who eats just a sweet potato," like I'd asked just for an ice cream cone with butter instead of ice cream. jesus

This is exactly what I'm talking about.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

This year I am thankful that I was not brought up in a household that ever served either sweet potatoes with marshmallows or green bean(/mushroom soup/fried onion) casserole. Seriously, I've never tasted sweet potatoes in any configuration that convinced me they were fit for human consumption.

j.lu, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

The marshmallow thing put me off as a kid as well. I mean, everyone likes marshmallows I guess, but it was pretty gross in combination.

Jordan, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 21:44 (eighteen years ago)

I could go just fine without ever eating a marshmallow again. Inflated sugar? More like inflated bullshit.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

Most awesome!

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 22 November 2007 01:07 (eighteen years ago)

solid sweet potato fries also can be found at Snug Harbor on Wilshire Blvd in Santa Monica.

omar little, Thursday, 22 November 2007 01:13 (eighteen years ago)

You know, I have never had this delightful tuber in pie form. BUT I am having thxgiving tomorrow with my wonderful former prof who cooks a mad soul food thxgiving supper. (Could've had it last year but I had probably eaten hummingbird proportions of body weight:food so I could not eat the delicious (presumably) pie nor the jello-mix 'lite' cheesecake his wife made...tho the latter I do not think is a misfortune).

I got some white sweet potatos the other day, to make a soup. I didn't know it was white until I peeled it. It was the first one I'd ever seen! Am I a freak?

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 22 November 2007 03:14 (eighteen years ago)

The whole sweet potato/marshmallow thing to me is just wrong. I don't like sweet potatoes anyway, they're slimy and squishy and ugh. But aside from that, vegetables and candy are NOT friends, nor should they date or cohabitate in any way shape or form. Dinner & dessert should be mutually exclusive. see also: Jello salad

VegemiteGrrrl, Thursday, 22 November 2007 03:34 (eighteen years ago)

vegetables and candy are NOT friends,

OTMCAKES

The Reverend, Thursday, 22 November 2007 03:40 (eighteen years ago)

And before someone says sweet potato pie is vegetables + candy, you are RONG. Pie != candy; pie = pie.

The Reverend, Thursday, 22 November 2007 03:43 (eighteen years ago)

And before anyone says OTMCAKES is vegetables + candy, you are RONG. OTM is not a vegetable.
