Happy Thanksgiving, all.

(No, I wasn't gonna revive FUCK WORKING ON A NATIONAL HOLIDAY)
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 22 November 2007 13:18 (eighteen years ago)
time and a half or better, I hope
― Oilyrags, Thursday, 22 November 2007 13:20 (eighteen years ago)
Also, at least the fooble game is in college station this year.
― Oilyrags, Thursday, 22 November 2007 13:22 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, time and a half. Definitely glad I don't have a game to deal with. Like 11 checkouts today vs. an average of 60. I worked yesterday and literally nothing happened for 8 hours. Slowest shift of my two years in the business.

Apparently the construction crew turned off the water (+ the water heater) yesterday so they could do some demolition work. They supposedly turned it all back on around 4 yesterday, but I've already gotten a half dozen complaints from people who've had to take cold showers.
Then again, today "half a dozen" = like half of everyone in the building, so I'm not real concerned.
Dude you should come check out our new lobby. Just opened yesterday. It is swank. They play lots of Eno and Metheny on the Muzak.

I feel certain that they'll push that aside for a half hour lop of schmaltzy carols by this time next week. At least if my retail experience is any indicator.

loOp
aha
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 22 November 2007 13:36 (eighteen years ago)
read "half hour lop" like 3 times going "wut"
It seems the Muzak has a number of stations, and the boss keeps it tuned to "Smooth/Ambient," so unless Aphex Twin did a Christmas album I think (I hope) I'm safe from "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus."

Oh Jesus guys are you really starting the demo work at 8 in the fucking morning
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 22 November 2007 13:50 (eighteen years ago)
Thanks a bunch for that
Not working today, thank god -- tomorrow though, yes. (Intentionally, though -- it's a very quiet day, and working then means I don't have to work any other holiday hours during the school year, plus it banks up as vacation time to use over the Xmas/New Year's break.)
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 22 November 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)
I have to admit I really like the ambient they're playing now.
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 22 November 2007 14:33 (eighteen years ago)
Makes me feel like I'm working in a massage parlor or the year 2025 or something, but I can live with that.
mental note: i shall revive this thread on christmas day.
although i'm quite happy to be working xmas as it gets me out of in-law-related stuff :)
anyway: enjoy your day, BIG HOOS. happy thanksgiving, america. etc.

unless Aphex Twin did a Christmas album
Actually, I'd kind of like to hear that.

I moved to a new apartment yesterday. I'm looking at shelves online. We've got some recessed walls and are thinking of mounting some shelves.

Just about to go home. Looking forward to reheated & mashed potatoes. No lie!
Maybe even a beer with Mom.

Just back from dinner with mine. No beer.
Damn liquor stores are all closed! (not relevant to beer, but I have a hankering for scotch, and there's none in the house)
