can you name the 7 deadly sins off the top of your head? don't post them here. just post yes/no for now.
― CaptainLorax, Saturday, 24 November 2007 23:51 (eighteen years ago)
The seven deadly virtues, those ghastly little traps.
― Laurel, Saturday, 24 November 2007 23:58 (eighteen years ago)
Yes I certainly can, and all the ten commandments too. I tend to forget about "sloth" but I've got them all down for real. Can also name the 14 articles of faith (mormon thing, v. silly they are), what each 10 bill of rights are, and all the counties in Idaho & their county seats (will never ever come in handy ever).
― Abbott, Sunday, 25 November 2007 00:52 (eighteen years ago)
Yes. Sometimes I recite them to myself. Maybe I'm afraid I'm MISSING OUT ON ONE
― Sara R-C, Sunday, 25 November 2007 00:59 (eighteen years ago)
I like how the only ones who replied were those of us with fucked up religious upbringings. Three cheers for extremism!
― Laurel, Sunday, 25 November 2007 01:27 (eighteen years ago)
+ one agnostic-from-birth hardman lurking for signs of trollity
― El Tomboto, Sunday, 25 November 2007 01:30 (eighteen years ago)
I knew them but only because I recounted the plot of the movie Se7en in my head.
I still know the Apostle's Creed though!
― jessie monster, Sunday, 25 November 2007 01:43 (eighteen years ago)
I used to know the Nicene Creed but I seem, blessedly, to have forgotten it. Things set to music are MUCH more memorable, which would explain why I know a song listing the books of the New Testament but have trouble with the Old (which I prefer, on the whole).
― Laurel, Sunday, 25 November 2007 01:45 (eighteen years ago)
Oh haha I know a song of the OT books but not the NT. We should take out Biblical books routines on American Idol.
― Abbott, Sunday, 25 November 2007 01:46 (eighteen years ago)
BIBLE SONG SWAP
― Laurel, Sunday, 25 November 2007 01:49 (eighteen years ago)
GENesis EXodus LEVETicus Nuh_HUM-bers!
It is actually kind of my jam & way fun to sing, esp when everyone is drunk including me and they are all baffled why am singing the song that ends with "THESE are the BOOKS of the Old TestaMENT."
― Abbott, Sunday, 25 November 2007 01:53 (eighteen years ago)
i thought this was just a catholic thing, there was absolutely no mention of the 7 in my old (nazarene)church nor any baptist one i've been to
― tremendoid, Sunday, 25 November 2007 01:53 (eighteen years ago)
I was never taught them in church, but it's just one of those cultural things floating around so I thought I should learn them, why not. And the ten commandments ESP. after that guy on Colbert could only name three.
― Abbott, Sunday, 25 November 2007 02:00 (eighteen years ago)
There's more than one set of seven deadly sins.
― Casuistry, Sunday, 25 November 2007 03:52 (eighteen years ago)
Also, more than one set of 10 commandments.
― Casuistry, Sunday, 25 November 2007 03:53 (eighteen years ago)
Idaho counties are relatively stable.
lol like no one saw "Se7en"
― HI DERE, Sunday, 25 November 2007 03:56 (eighteen years ago)
I didn't see Se7en! Because I am a scaredy-cat, that's why.
― Sara R-C, Sunday, 25 November 2007 06:29 (eighteen years ago)
i don't remember that movie cuz I was stoned
― CaptainLorax, Sunday, 25 November 2007 06:40 (eighteen years ago)
I think I know 5. (Is it wrong to mention the ones I'm not sure of?)
― Sundar, Sunday, 25 November 2007 06:50 (eighteen years ago)
yes
― CaptainLorax, Sunday, 25 November 2007 07:11 (eighteen years ago)
I had to brainstorm with the people around me to try to get them all. I'm gonna look them up, now that I think of it.
― CaptainLorax, Sunday, 25 November 2007 07:12 (eighteen years ago)
I guess I was wrong about one of them. It wasn't really an adjective. I should have known.
― CaptainLorax, Sunday, 25 November 2007 07:13 (eighteen years ago)
"Pride" and "envy" are in there, right? I have 5 if so.
― Sundar, Sunday, 25 November 2007 07:28 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, anger! (Or is it "wrath?") I'm up to 6 if that works.
7 deadly sins mnemonic = PALE GAS
― Noodle Vague, Sunday, 25 November 2007 11:25 (eighteen years ago)
envy lust pride greed uhhh...
― That one guy that hit it and quit it, Sunday, 25 November 2007 11:30 (eighteen years ago)
Yes. I also know the song Laurel referenced in the first post. This is more because I really liked "Camelot" as a kid than religious upbringing though.
― Maria, Sunday, 25 November 2007 12:03 (eighteen years ago)
I remembered six of them, missed out wrath as I'm never, ever angry. Though often greedy, lusty and indolent.
― Billy Dods, Sunday, 25 November 2007 12:21 (eighteen years ago)

― jhøshea, Sunday, 25 November 2007 14:24 (eighteen years ago)
I love the music to Camelot. Not so much the movie, tho.

― That one guy that hit it and quit it, Sunday, 25 November 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)
They're not literally in the bible, no, but look: dissensus is one of them!
― StanM, Sunday, 25 November 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)
I also know the song Laurel referenced in the first post
This starts playing in my head every time I look at this thread. SO GLAD THERE ARE OTHERS
― Sara R-C, Sunday, 25 November 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)
I can name a few. Would have been able if I was still in my 20s but now my brain has rotted away. Despite being an atheist, I always aced Religion in school. In fact the nun, who taught us, really liked me. Even after I did a parody of her (as a stripper nun) for a play. Actually I don't think she ever saw the play so in her mind I was still a good girl. hah. Uh, that is totally apropos of nothing.
― stevienixed, Sunday, 25 November 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)
It even put another song from the musical in my head! Haha yes I am glad there are others though, it still pops into my head when I think of the seven deadly sins.(xpost)
― Maria, Sunday, 25 November 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)
My birthday is in May. Yes, the lusty month of May. And in a good year, July and August cannot be too hot, and your lover will never leave you in the winter, when you catch the fire's glow. So invariably c'est moi who has these songs stuck in her head at regular intervals throughout the year.
― Laurel, Sunday, 25 November 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)
1. gangster 2. avarice 3. tired 4. can't cook 5. push-ups 6. foot hurts 7. snobby
― s1ocki, Sunday, 25 November 2007 18:06 (eighteen years ago)
Didn't you guys see the PALE GAS mnemonic upthread?
The correct answer is
Parsnip, Avocado, Lettuce, Endive, Gourd, Artichoke, Sprouts
― Oilyrags, Sunday, 25 November 2007 18:17 (eighteen years ago)
What is the maximum age your religion (or, if you are not religious, the predominant religion in your location) would regard as not being sinful? Preferred age of death Less than 70 70-90 90-120 120-200 200-1,000 No Limit Don't Know No Answer
― Sébastien, Sunday, 25 November 2007 18:25 (eighteen years ago)
Nath that is the awesomest thing I have ever heard.
― Abbott, Sunday, 25 November 2007 19:31 (eighteen years ago)
Think some of my classmates are simps Yearn for the worldly powers of a county commissioner Ate a meatloaf and a half once Own a vibratorb THE DOUBLE DEUCE! Out of toilet paper; want more toilet paper Sleep 14 hours a day when possible
― Abbott, Sunday, 25 November 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)
WE ARE SINNERS ALL
especially the people who listed the sins they remember. it isn't as hard to figure them all out if you read 6 of them in this thread.
― CaptainLorax, Sunday, 25 November 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)
oh well, the cats out of the bag I guess
Putting a cat in a bag is definitely one of the deadly sins.
― Noodle Vague, Sunday, 25 November 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)
as in the cat will try to eat you alive deadly.
