Was gonna call this "Turks and Caicos Islands won't win the CONACAF Preliminary Round Qualificatiers", but that would be 4-5-1.

Billy Dods, Sunday, 25 November 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

862,000.00 Euro bonus for Domenech following France's qualification.

l'homme moderne: il forniquait et lisait des journaux (Michael White), Friday, 20 November 2009 16:46 (sixteen years ago)

ok now i'm angry

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Friday, 20 November 2009 16:47 (sixteen years ago)

because everything else aside france have qualified in spite of that guy, to an almost comical extent.

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Friday, 20 November 2009 16:48 (sixteen years ago)

urgh

spiny doughboy (baaderonixx), Friday, 20 November 2009 16:49 (sixteen years ago)

The French definitely do not appreciate sports in the same partisan way as other nations, btw. I was once talking to a mad-keen formula one fan there, and the only thing he could tell me he liked about it was 'the purity of the line'.

the basic decency of both sides here, plus the cynicism of FIFA, makes me think that a Fair Play award for the Irish fans is the inevitable outcome to all this

Ismael Klata, Friday, 20 November 2009 16:53 (sixteen years ago)

xpost: 'decency' typed before seeing Domenech's bonus

Ismael Klata, Friday, 20 November 2009 16:54 (sixteen years ago)

blatter would need to take preventative measures for that not to end up as fair play suppository in record time

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Friday, 20 November 2009 16:55 (sixteen years ago)

France are basically the new England, aren't they?

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Friday, 20 November 2009 16:56 (sixteen years ago)

The FFA had, I think, 10 million Euros to spread around as bonuses for this campaign.

l'homme moderne: il forniquait et lisait des journaux (Michael White), Friday, 20 November 2009 16:57 (sixteen years ago)

oh well, nice for Slovenia

mdskltr (blueski), Friday, 20 November 2009 16:58 (sixteen years ago)

tho they'll have to give that all to Russia for fuel anyway

mdskltr (blueski), Friday, 20 November 2009 16:59 (sixteen years ago)

10m swedish linesman allowance, was it?

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Friday, 20 November 2009 16:59 (sixteen years ago)

maybe the replay can be played inside a 7 foot high steel cage to ensure there's no outside interferences?

instead of extra time and penalties there should be crossbar challenge. not easy to cheat that one.

do you want to be happier? (whatever), Friday, 20 November 2009 17:10 (sixteen years ago)

Actually, one of the reasons Domenech is still in place after all that awful football (dating back to oh, around august 2006) is because it would be very expensive to fire him. Though when I see hisbonus, I'm kind of amazed. Good job Raymond, you did shit all along and are handsomely paid.

Jibe, Friday, 20 November 2009 17:12 (sixteen years ago)

Didn't he decide not to select Pires in 2002 based on some personal vendetta?

l'homme moderne: il forniquait et lisait des journaux (Michael White), Friday, 20 November 2009 17:19 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, Pires and, I think, Giuly will never be in the team cause bth of them slept with his wife (before she ws his wife tho). Or at least so goes the legend. I sure hope it's for some other reasons too.

Jibe, Friday, 20 November 2009 17:22 (sixteen years ago)

Wasn't the lol official line he never chose Pires because of astronomy? Guily totally banged her tho.

a hoy hoy, Friday, 20 November 2009 17:26 (sixteen years ago)

Why, is she ugly?

Ismael Klata, Friday, 20 November 2009 17:26 (sixteen years ago)

it was still LeMerre then Santini in charge in 2002 tho wasn't it?

mdskltr (blueski), Friday, 20 November 2009 17:26 (sixteen years ago)

gis estelle denis to see what his wife looks like. Also yeah, Domenech only came in 2004.

Jibe, Friday, 20 November 2009 17:28 (sixteen years ago)

Looks like it was in 2004. He has publicly said that he doesn't trust Scorpios.

l'homme moderne: il forniquait et lisait des journaux (Michael White), Friday, 20 November 2009 22:57 (sixteen years ago)

xxp Yeah as far as i kno she did marry him.

Cantona says:
"I think that Raymond Domenech is the worst coach in French football since Louis XVI. If it was up to me, I’d put (Bordeaux coach) Laurent Blanc in charge of the France team...He continues the season with Bordeaux, he wins the league with Bordeaux and he wins the World Cup! I’m not the only one who thinks that… What shocked me most wasn’t the handball, honestly. What shocked me most was that at the end of the match, in front of the television cameras, this player <Henry> went and sat down next to an Irish player to console him, even though he’d screwed them three minutes earlier. If I’d been Irish, he wouldn’t have lasted three seconds.”

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Friday, 27 November 2009 11:23 (sixteen years ago)

IRELANDO

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Friday, 27 November 2009 11:25 (sixteen years ago)

^ is very possibly right, given how cynical football authorities are. There's no obvious answer, because Uruguay got through to a playoff with Costa Rica and qualified from that. Colombia and Ecuador were tied a point behind Uruguay.

However, the Chilean club causing such offence is Rangers, so no doubt they'd drop their appeal quicksmart if there was a sniff of Ireland benefitting. Maybe the FAI could persuade O'Higgins to launch an appeal of their own as backup.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 27 November 2009 11:49 (sixteen years ago)

colonialist past coming back to haunt us. who knew?

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Friday, 27 November 2009 11:55 (sixteen years ago)

there is always always a story about a country possibly being kicked out of the the World Cup months before it happens.

tends to happen with Greece. Algeria prompting it based on trouble in Khartoum is a bit of a long shot tho.

Ireland asking if they can go to the World Cup after all. Costa Rica too, maybe. FIFA actually going to consider the idea, or at least go through the motions.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 30 November 2009 12:20 (sixteen years ago)

can we go to the world cup? we were drawing with france until they cheated.
