Is tonight - anyone else going?

Tom, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Please report back. I dearly would have loved to go and had planned to up to yesterday. Gah. I bet it's packed madder than before.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I really DO fancy it, but also it's REALLY urgent and key that I do some washing and EAT SOME DECENT FOOD at some point this week so I might go home first and come out later. But there is a RISK I might be sated by gnocchi. I also need to rejig my room a tad (electrical overload VERY IMMINENT) so... we shall see!

Sarah, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd really like to go. But I'm going to an Alistair McGowan recording instead.

dan, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

As you know Tom I was well up fer it but am instead spending an evening in a trendy SoSho bar. Bloomsbury is SO last month darling.

Say HI to Tom Middleton from Ant ;)

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bloomsbury?! King of Boots is in Fitzrovia dahlink.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Geography & a sense of direction are VERY 2001 sweetie.

I blame getting drunk again last night for the confusion.

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wanna go. Sarah, Shall I cook the marrow tonight, then we could go out. I dunno. Perhaps. Who knows.

alix, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay - and I MUST swap over some of the stereo/TV stuff as it is now making me paranoid grrr. We'll see, I think I need a night in though.

Sarah, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nights in are for cushions. Though considering I spent most of my lecture this morning practically asleep maybe it would be wise. BUT NO! I must go out! I have a day off tomorrow. What better way to spend it than regretting yesterday? Go on, come out!

alix, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I really really want to go to this- but sadly I live out in hicksville. So instead- should I go to see Simian or Mates Of State? Anyone? Anyone?

emil.y, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well it seems that my SoSho birthday girl is quite keen on boots too so we might come along later (in which case it would seem more sensible to go to a bar round the West End but since when did being sensible lead to a GREAT nite out?)

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Careful Emma, saying something very similar to that got me accused of being GRUMPY yesterday.

Pete, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But I was bigging up the craziness of the logistics, man! And anyway if we get her drunk enough she'll pay for us bootkidz to get a cab over to the club, he he he.

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So much for my earlyish night. Pah!

Pete, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I haf now decided to stay in and watch POKEMONG!

Sarah, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete you do not have to chaperone me I can go out on my own y'know. I'm sure I will find a nice young man to look after me, heh heh.

Emma, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And I have decided to stay in an listen to everything Sarah hates.I might have to cry off any social engagements for a while..

alix, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I'm still planning on going, Tom, so maybe we should arrange a time to meet up as I'm not quite sure which newsagent Asylum is under, other than where it's Rathbone Place finishes and Charlotte Street starts.

Perhaps you could let me know, either here or by emailing me off board. I'm here 'till 5.

Even though Thursday night is Buffy night I feel it incumbent upon myself not to miss out on potential cultural shifts.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Did you go Marcello - I arrived at 8.15 (i.e. before it kicked off) and found the place already half full. By 8.30 it was full, by 8.50 it was insane so we (Magnus had turned up too by this point) left - no room to move at all, let alone dance, and we passed about six more people arriving just as we went upstairs. They need a bigger venue, no doubt. Sorry to miss you.

Tom, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pretend you were there:

dan, Saturday, 9 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

was excellent night, really good atmosphere. Si Begg in particular was fantastic. good to go to a night with a sense of humour. stayed till 1:20am by which time there was only about 10 people left

michael, Saturday, 9 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought everyone in the world made it. Seemed like that. BTW.. were those people heading down Oxford St in westward direction later on ILM folk??????

K_reg aka nick, Sunday, 10 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i managed to escape all but one of the photos (and that was only the back of my head), but unfortunately i am in the video (linked from osymyso.com)...

the next date for King of the Boots is 4th April... strongly recommended, if it's as good as the last one

michael, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

they've got to move it elsewhere. and still free? not with that many punters to accomodate.

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i think the small venue was a good thing - added to the charm. having said that, our group did manage to occupy the spot immediately beneath the air conditioning for most of the evening

michael, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yikes, Michael, you must be some kind of masochist - it was nearly unbearable when I was there last month and having been reliably informed it was significantly worse this month I don't fancy braving it. Why the hell can't they just get somewhere a bit bigger thereby improving the enjoyment factor?

Emma, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd love to actually see something like this, but it won't catch on over here for about ten years and even then the Church will never be ok with it.

Ronan, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Eh? The Church? Are you taking the piss Ronan?

Emma, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No we're having a referendum in June about whether I can listen to Eminem.

Yes I'm just mocking Ireland. Business as usual really.

Ronan, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I don't know. For all I know all Irish clubs are located in church halls and they are overly concerned about the potential legal bind of the whole bootleg scene.

Emma, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

For all I know, outside Dublin they could well be.

Ronan, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

legally clubs can play bootlegs etc - it's just the same as if the deejay was mixing two tracks at once. it's only when you try and sell the records that it becomes a problem

michael, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was kidding about the legal thing, I didn't really think the Fraud Squad were going to burst into the club screaming 'you're nicked' at that nice Mr Osymiso.

Emma, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What, cos it's not his real name?

Graham, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it's at the same place again:

michael, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it says for the official launch of the intro-inspection EP!? What are the clearance issues on something like that?

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well it doesn't actually say 'official', Alan! I will probably won't be going though if it's in that venue according to my first time experience of it and rumours it was even worse the second time. This one would be hideous I should imagine.

Sarah, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yes. being squidged in the name of being a scenester seems a little like mentalism

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I just listened online to the XFM interview with Freelance Hellraiser last Thurs, where they say this will be the last KOTB ... in this form, anyway. May reemerge in new venue/club idc.

Jeff W, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you can press anything up as a white label. white labels/promo copies count as promotional material and no royalties are paid (this is standard for record company contracts). the worst they could do is confiscate any unsold copies

michael, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what happened to KotB 12? this one is 13 and the last was 11. is it held elsewhere too in between?
