Upscale Neighborhood Illegal Immigrant Bashing -- I Am Disgusted with My Home Town

as many long-term ILX posters know, i was born & raised around princeton, NJ. as is the case with many other college towns, the folks there like to think of themselves as being mildly-progressive (at least in an NPR-listening/too-polite/educated-to-be-openly-bigoted way). i also periodically entertain notions of moving back there for good, as i find that living in north jersey and working in new york to be increasingly disagreeable and pointless.

so this story about the anti-illegal immigrant sentiments being expressed in relation to an insurance settlement awarded to an illegal worker mauled by a german shepherd to be extremely disquieting. even if i didn't have the aforementioned connection, this story would still disgust me -- i agree with the sentiments of another individual quoted in the linked story: "I would hate my hometown and home state to go down in history as the place where suburbanites value their dogs above their lives of those they hire to tend their yards."

bottom line: humanity sucks, even those who think that they're "better" than the archie bunker-types who at least are open about their opinions on such matters.
