energy flash gordon, Thursday, 6 December 2007 07:54 (seventeen years ago)

OK we're playing in Melb at the N0rthcote Social Club on Jan 26 and I have been assured it's a gigantic venue. How are we going to fill it?? BY MAKING SURE ALL YOU MELBOURNE MONGRELS SHOW UP. You hearin me Trayce? I don't care how crap you think we are. No excuses!

moley, Thursday, 6 December 2007 07:55 (seventeen years ago)

NSC isn't gigantic, but it's decent. 100 people looks like a good crowd, 200 basically fills it.

it's just down the road from me now, but i'll have moved by then. however i will still come along

electricsound, Thursday, 6 December 2007 08:02 (seventeen years ago)

I'll be there! If I'm not I'll be killed, right? ;P

Trayce, Thursday, 6 December 2007 08:04 (seventeen years ago)

i shall attend. moodymann later that night, too!

kit: i missed both!

haitch, Thursday, 6 December 2007 08:11 (seventeen years ago)

lol @ this, at the NSC the week before moley's visit:

The Drunken Spelling Bee adds a new twist (public drunkenness) to an old favorite (the spelling bee!) Having become a popular underground event in certain UK and US cities, the Drunken Spelling Bee comes to Australia for the first time! Hosted by “America’s Funnyman” Neil Hamburger and “Australia’s drunkest magician” Dr. El Suavo, watch as hapless contestants try to spell pop culture words immediately after downing a shot of booze. Whether you are a spectator or a drinks-included contestant, your sides will split with the hilarity and unpredictability of the Drunken Spelling Bee. Prizes will be awarded.

Hey guys, does anyone have Return To Earth by Tumbleweed? I used to have it on cd but I must have lost it.

I can't find it on teh net anywhere and i've wanting to listen to it lately :(

They were the first band I saw live, btw.

W4LTER, Thursday, 6 December 2007 23:14 (seventeen years ago)

which album of that is theirs? i've been looking for all their early vinyl on ebay and their cds seem to come up all the time

electricsound, Thursday, 6 December 2007 23:19 (seventeen years ago)

Tumbleweed! That "Hey MaryJaaaaaaane" song and the Ratcat song were de rigeur for any young band to learn in my hometown in the early 90s.

Proton Engery Pills theres a blast from the past!

Trayce, Thursday, 6 December 2007 23:33 (seventeen years ago)

we knew they'd very quickly end

hey col! the other week I was in 1x car and FBi was on, and some bloke out of some young person's electronic group had just been playing a bunch of Severed Heads and I&S, and then the DJ was giving it "obv Sev would have been a huge influence on you etc" and he sez (he sez) "actually seeing I&S live at the Big Day Out was a big revelatory moment for me, that made me realise that I could make electronic music in this country myself etc etc." aw.

also I walked past Paul M on Erko Road the other night, he was being given ag by a drunk bloke outside the Imperial (actually I walk past him in the street about once a year, it even happened in Melbourne in 2003)

also also re Sev Heads are we de-indexed on mongthread?

-- King Boy Pato, Thursday, 6 December 2007 12:28 (Yesterday) Link

If the AFL were smart, and had a modicum of interest about the non-business side of the game, they'd set it up so each state had it's own league, then the finalists in each state play off. More games, less travel, more local support, longer season. But while this would be great for SANFL, WAFL, VFL and the Northern Territory, should they field a league, there'd be resounding resounding silence from NSW and QLD, where everyone is too busy dressing up in women's clothing while bashing faggots while watching the *other* Footy Show.

Anyway, even if you're apathetic about it, no one deserves to be forced to move to the Gold Coast.

i doubt there's much pumpkin love here, and i don't even like their new album much, but i've been such a huge fan since i was 13 and never seen them live, so this is my teenage dream-come-true.

And Big Jules Bishop is being a dick about it?

W4LTER, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 23:20 (seventeen years ago)

Was she being a dick? I was kind of half asleep when I was watching the news last night.

W4LTER, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 23:21 (seventeen years ago)

she probably was!

i think they want to 'preview' the wording of the speech before rudd delivers it, or some such nonsense.

First gig I ever went to, they were, in 1996, as a 14-year-old. Was brilliant. Generous, varied set, they were ON.

Of course, now I am old and hate rock music I feel a twinge of nostalgia but nothing else.

edwardo, Thursday, 31 January 2008 00:27 (seventeen years ago)

my first gig: boom crash opera @ 1992 scout jamboree. straight-up.

haitch, Thursday, 31 January 2008 00:37 (seventeen years ago)

mine was meanies/tumbleweed/nirvana. coincidentally i have listened to all three bands in the last few days, for pretty much the first time since back then.

electricsound, Thursday, 31 January 2008 00:53 (seventeen years ago)

I saw the Pumpkins in 1994(?) when they toured Siamese Dream. They played at A PUB ;P NYERRR!

It were pretty good actually. They toured again a year or 2 later and played Rod Laver. Sucks to be anyone who missed the POW show.

Trayce, Thursday, 31 January 2008 02:34 (seventeen years ago)

O and this time round they're only doing the V festival, right? Ugh. Duran Duran? I mean gimme a break (I like Duran Duran. but I dont really want to see them live now rather than 25 years ago)

Trayce, Thursday, 31 January 2008 02:35 (seventeen years ago)

I was going to say that quote from Futurama about wishing I was old enough to feel that way about stuff but I've forgotten it. Whatever, though, I would NOT go and see Duran Duran, even though they were the first "cool" band my older sister played for me.

I played SQUASH this morning. I was very bad - I last played when I was 12 and the physics of the ball, particularly off high shots, caused me all manner of ish. I may do it again.

edwardo, Thursday, 31 January 2008 02:36 (seventeen years ago)

"Man I can't wait til I'm old enough to feel ways about stuff!"

Rubyredd, Thursday, 31 January 2008 03:59 (seventeen years ago)

you try to look pale and sad and you indicate, without being explicit, that you are menstruating (again). you can't overdo it, some of the dumber girls try it every week and lose credibility. rather than refuse to do anything at the outset it's best to feebly pretend to be joining in but double over periodically and 'just sit down for a minute', then you look brave and willing.

estela, Thursday, 31 January 2008 04:04 (seventeen years ago)

i knew i could count on trayce and rubes to understand.

ruby, don't pay him any mind.

estela, Thursday, 31 January 2008 04:10 (seventeen years ago)

i am a semi shut-in aspie rube. so it's ok.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 31 January 2008 04:17 (seventeen years ago)

In high school i had an unspecified liver problem (as in, they didnt know what it was, not me being secretive here) that was somewhat like mono. I had a medical cert saying I was excused from sport and PE. The substitue PE teacher one week read it, and said out loud in a disgusted voice in front of the whole class "HAVE YOU GOT HEPATITIS!?"

Um... thanks. No.

Trayce, Thursday, 31 January 2008 04:18 (seventeen years ago)
