I vote Carlito's Way. Scarface to me is hideously overrated, even though it is enjoyable. There's no good reason for it to be three hours as it comes across as a comic book version of an organized crime movie with sensationalist violence, catchy one-liners, but little content. Montana's arc just plummets out of nowhere with his rise to power being little more than a montage and his fall from grace coming out of nowhere and not really explained well.
I found the story in Carlito's Way to be a lot more entertaining, for one the character wasn't completely unlikeable like in Scarface. Even the music used was more laidback and introspective and not so "in your face". Actually had characters I gave a shit about.

Carlito's is probably one of the only De Palma machismo epics I really like every bit as much as his sex/murder farces.

I was at a friend's house last night and they put Carlito's Way in their VCR. Never saw a second before that, but we managed to get about 25 minutes in and I was completely entranced. Haven't even seen the rest of it, but it already wins over Scarface. For one, my brother didn't play CW to death.

No shit, I swear for a while everytime I went over to my friend's house he put fucking Scarface on.

Sorry boys, all the stitches in the world can't sew me together again. Lay down... lay down. Gonna stretch me out in Fernandez funeral home on 109th street. Always knew I'd make a stop there, but a lot later than a whole gang of people thought... Last of the Moh-Ricans... well maybe not the last. Gail's gonna be a good mom... New improved Carlito Brigante... Hope she uses the money to get out. No room in this city for big hearts like hers... Sorry baby, I tried the best I could, honest... Can't come with me on this trip, Loaf. Getting the shakes now, last call for drinks, bars closing down... Sun's out, where are we going for breakfast? Don't wanna go far. Rough night, tired baby... Tired...

Carlito's Way is better for all the reasons mentioned already. Great ending too.

Carlito's is definitely better, but Scarface is still a great film.
