(Relatively minor) burnt skin remedies

I was frying oil for latkes on Sunday when I clumsily caused it to splash up on my hand and face (cheek, top of lip). It hasn't blistered (although my lip is a little puffy), but has made red splotches. Has anyone else ever dione this? Is vitamin e oil about all I can do? How long will it take to heal? Thanking in advance...

Thanks. Is that like petroleum jelly with vitamin e?

Vit E, aloe, comfrey, the usual.

i'm not sure of the contents, but that it works. i inflicted a nasty burn on the palm of my hand while using a heated element to level candles -- it really helped to keep the skin soft during healing, which helped it from getting itchy or tight feeling, as superficial burns often do.

I just burnt my hand this weekend taking shepherd's pie out of the oven, when it was on broil.

I had some Burt's Bees Res-Q ointment laying around, and it smells nice. It seems to be doing okay.

I have been proclaiming I'm a burn victim, but it's not really working sympathy-wise.

I'd like to burn myself on my oven but it DOESN'T WORK.

Laurel, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 21:04 (seventeen years ago)

NO! Is landlord going to get it fixed any time soon?

molly mummenschanz, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 21:06 (seventeen years ago)

oh no laurel!

i burnt myself with hot oil over a month ago and there is still a red mark. also the skin looks INDENTED. will this be a scar forever or should i put something on it or what?

Landlord, oh that's hilarious. No, it'll be up to me to fix the oven. May be doing a little creative gas pipe rerouting or something. Pilot light ignition replacement?

Oh god, Laurel! DO NOT BLOW YOURSELF UP. THEN YOU COULD JOIN THE BURN VICTIMS CLUB.

Would cocoa butter help the scar?

molly mummenschanz, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 21:11 (seventeen years ago)

does it work if you light the pilot light manually? i know it's a pain but you could just get one of those long sparking lighters (lighting burners with regular length things freaks me out, i am a pussy)

bell_labs, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 21:11 (seventeen years ago)

Sadly, no. I think there's no gas getting to the oven pilot, or else the pilot mechanism is itself broken.

oh sad :(
maybe call the gas company to check it out if the landlord wont?

bell_labs, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 21:13 (seventeen years ago)

I'm considering that. After the hols, looks like.
