This is the coolest horror/slasher movie ever. seriously I mean.....very nice and creepy kill scenes, loads of profanity, a quiet young female lead with the scariest looking eyes onthe planet, one of the most hilarious acting performances ever (the mother)....

and the ending, well...NUFF SAID!

Great movie. The ending is a little over the top and, uh, ridiculously un-PC, but you can't argue with that still frame...

and by "un-PC" I mean "offensive"

two years pass...

three years later this is still my favorite horror/slasher movie. it's a shame it was followed up by such ridiculous sequels (including the absolutely horrific Return to Sleepaway Camp in 2008).

it has camp for sure but I mean even the opening boating accident has the same uncomfortable tension that this year's Piranha 3-D had. Inventive ills, unusual horror devices (which I can't say much more about).

This so calls for another watching this Halloween. for those of you who haven't seen it RENT IT OR STREAM IT NOW.

who else is a fan?

having watched tons of this genre growing up it is weird to me that I only saw this three years ago, and yeah, it's pretty amazing, some really sick/humiliating deaths and the surprise psycho-tweek ending could launch a gender studies dissertation or two

love the scene where the cop and the one counselor are talking at length in morbid detail about what extreme pain the cook must be experiencing

so many half-shirts in this movie

one evening last month i watched the second and third ones

the second one is pretty weak, the third one is hilarious for the first half hour or so, mainly due the absurd "teen" (some of whom look like they're thirtysomething) stereotypes. also features the immortal line "suck my dick, spic!"

dude (del), Monday, 18 October 2010 02:10 (fourteen years ago)

seen the second, not the third. avoid Return at all costs, it's sub-college movie levels. and it has Vincent Pastore and Isaac Hayes!

that creepy scene with the two kids pointing at each other in the middle outright gets me. I hafta admit the ending kept me awake a while after I saw it the first time.

oh and cousin Ricky's mother was one of the creepiest people in the world. I thought it was an acting choice but on the director's commentary they say that's how she acts IRL. I'd be creeped out talking to her I bet.

"two kinds pointing at each other"? hmmm, I can't think of the scene you're talking about

if true, that is crazy about the mom/aunt actress. i had just figured it was genius acting on her part, and was wondering how the script described her character or how the director told her to play it

Love love love this movie. I love how they just take the ending and make the mystery they've been trying to solve completely irrelevant

when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's annoying. (Stevie D), Monday, 18 October 2010 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

It's just so WTF and irrelevant itself

when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's annoying. (Stevie D), Monday, 18 October 2010 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, the whole film is packed with wtf and even sort of "fuck you" moments on the part of the filmmakers

Which scene with the kids pointing at each other?

I wish I could find a video that includes the song that Angela hums. Amongst certain friends, that tune is a frequent little in-joke.

I taste like the Tub Girl's back in "The Shining". (Jesse), Monday, 18 October 2010 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

the song that plays over the end credits sounds like ariel pink.

dude (del), Monday, 18 October 2010 16:44 (fourteen years ago)

kinds=kids. god I'm bad with typos lately. the scene wehre their dad is with the other guy in bed and one of the children points at the other, the first real sign that something might be 'wrong' with Angela besides the obvious.

melody-hating aggr0 nerd (San Te), Monday, 18 October 2010 18:06 (fourteen years ago)

ha, no, that was my typo!

oh, that part. yeah...

thirteen years pass...

Rewatched last night and god this movie is vivid!

I don't usually find much in common with MD'A but he more or less hits the nail on the head with his (rating notwithstanding) rave: https://letterboxd.com/gemko/film/sleepaway-camp/
