Why is Sinterklaas attributed to Indonesia instead of the Netherlands, who presumably imported Sinterklaas to their colonies?

jaymc, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

Captain Sack Bagface is so great.

John Justen, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 17:04 (seventeen years ago)

Also, the next time someone calls him "Father Christmas", I'm going to ask them if they live in Ray Davies.

Yes, John Waters, great ep.

Does anyone actually call him Kris Kringle?

Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

Father Christmas that is not John Waters.

Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

I voted for BOZICEK

nabisco, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:03 (seventeen years ago)

I think it's because I imagine the Chief of Santas calling him into his office in a rage --

"BOZICEK! Get in here! You're a loose cannon!"
When the going gets tough, the tough turn to ... BOZICEK
This summer, Brian Dennehy IS ... BOZICEK

nabisco, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 18:06 (seventeen years ago)

ILX System, Monday, 17 December 2007 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think the German one is correct, the actual German word is "Weihnachtsmann" (Christmas Man). Germans don't even write "man" with just one n. The finnish name "Joulupukki" translates to "Christmas Goat", btw. (Before the universal white-bearded guy took over, the gifts were traditonally delivered by a dude with a goats face.)

Tuomas, Monday, 17 December 2007 13:09 (seventeen years ago)

The Welsh - Sion Corn - appeals, but mainly because of Datblygu's Ga i fod Sion Corn (Can I Be Father Christmas), which I listened to over and over again while drinking a bottle of whisky a few years ago.
