Man nearly dies after downing 2 pints of vodka in airport
December 12, 2007 16:08 EST

BERLIN (AP) -- German police say a man nearly died from alcohol poisoning after he chugged two pints of vodka because airport security said he either had to throw it out or pay a fee have his carry-on bag checked.

The incident occurred yesterday at the Nuremberg airport, where the 64-year-old man was on his way home from a vacation in Egypt.

New airport rules prohibit passengers from carrying larger quantities of liquid onto planes, so police say the man downed the vodka and was quickly unable to stand or otherwise function.

A doctor who was called to the scene determined the had possibly life-threatening alcohol poisoning, and he was sent to a Nuremberg clinic for treatment. The man is expected to be able to go home in a few days.

My dad used to tell me this story about a guy at the football who got dared to scull an entire bottle of vodka, did so, and fell down dead 15 minutes later. I don't know, in hindsight, if that's possible? Was probably his "DONT DRINK MORAN" story.

My dad had a story of a hard-working, overheated farmer who died instantly from drinking ice water. "Put lemon in your water and you won't die," my dad said.

...? thx?

I was tempted to do this @ LAX with a pint of Jap whisky I thought was safe 'cause I'd gotten it in duty-free, but I thought better of it and let the layabout airport jockeys drink my whisky instead.
