Wilful neglect of self

How hard would it be to starve/dehydrate oneself to death if the means of survival were within easy access?

Say for example you suffered a huge bereavement and never wanted to get out of your bed again. Never wanted to eat again, or drink again.

Would you be able to just waste away, or would the urge to go to the fridge for instant life saving refreshment?

At what point would survival instinct take over... or would it?

If you're determined to starve to death, you will.

i guess this is exactly what anorexics do. the body might have the instinct to survive, but i'm pretty sure the mind can sometimes be powerful enough to override it.

i dunno.

there's a difference between bobby sands and anorexics, in terms of intent. interesting psychological question. but i don't think you can maintain a mind/body split that sharp and i have no idea how sands went through with it.

yeah, i think with anorexia sufferers it's not really a 'choice' - it's a compulsion, so in that instance it's not really a mind/body split.
