OK so long story short: I submitted a short story for publication to a national magazine. Veeeeeeeeery unlikely I'll get in, and I really just did it for shits & giggles. But there's a chance.
Local alt weekly is doing their annual short story contest. Wanna submit the same story cause I think it's pretty good. Deadline is in two days. I have a much better chance of doing well locally, and I could totally use the minor prize money.
Do I submit the story to the contest, and then suffer the anguish of telling BIG MAGAZINE "sorry guys the local alt weekly has it" on the off chance I get in
Or do I not submit to the contest on the small chance I actually get into BIG MAGAZINE.

I can, it's really just a matter of immediacy. Contest stuff needs be postmarked by Monday, and I don't know for sure yet if BIG MAG has rejected me or not.
