Well, there it is.

Is that ironic? I don't even know any more. Morissettian irony has confused my concept of irony forever. Perhaps we should just redefine the damn word.

The thing that keeps this from being ironic = OF COURSE a guy involved in roofing is more likely to be injured/killed in a roofing-related accident.

Making it approx. at ironic as, say, a NASCAR driver dying in a NASCAR crash
― nabisco, Friday, 21 December 2007 23:29 (eighteen years ago)
but it was HIS OWN roof!

P.S. He sounds like the type who would actually be fairly proud that even after making billions and having no need to ever actually look at another roof for the rest of his life, he died actually up there with the workers, keeping involved and whatnot
xpost - there may or may not be some mild irony in the fact that the billionaire roofing-company guy could not get an accident-free roofing job done on his own use, but that would kinda depend on a whole lot of statistics about the frequency of roofing accidents and what kind of job they were doing for him

Hendricks was unpretentious, a believer in hard work and doing things his way, she said.
I ain't running no damn daisy farm. My motto is "Do it my way or watch your butt!"

Whose way do pretentious people prefer to do things in?
― nabisco, Friday, 21 December 2007 23:35 (eighteen years ago)
wait, right, Derrida
I doubt many people are hurt roofing; there are safety precautions. The irony stems from the fact that just this once he probably allowed himself to go up on site (seeing as it was his own roof) without the safety precautions, and of course this one time was enough to off him.

XP, yeah, i was just about to point that out. There are reasons why many states require no-fall harnesses when doing this shit.

he who lives by the roof; dies by the roof.

Reminds me of what happened to Tony Hayers...

... who just followed in the (slippery) footsteps of the equally unbelievable rod hull.
