Those drinking glasses for boats, made so they stayed level while the boat rocked—how did they work? My parents chartered a 30' sailboat for 2 weeks when I was a kid, and we had these on board, but that's the extent of my memory's cooperation.

I need some, because any minute now my house will start rocking.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 22 December 2007 00:57 (eighteen years ago)

I can't believe nobody knows this. Ya landlubbers.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 22 December 2007 01:34 (eighteen years ago)

Sara R-C, Saturday, 22 December 2007 01:55 (eighteen years ago)

HI

Surmounter, Saturday, 22 December 2007 02:00 (eighteen years ago)

Were these actual drinking glasses or merely drinking glass holders with a fancy suspension?

estela, Saturday, 22 December 2007 02:13 (eighteen years ago)

oh my god my aunt got us some of those once. i was like, what the HELL is this whole for?

Surmounter, Saturday, 22 December 2007 02:14 (eighteen years ago)

*hole

Surmounter, Saturday, 22 December 2007 02:14 (eighteen years ago)

I have such brain damage, I can't believe I'm blanking on this, but the glasses were somehow self-righting. Perhaps they had rounded bottoms? That cannot be.

Beth Parker, Saturday, 22 December 2007 02:19 (eighteen years ago)

Lil Sucker!

You can stick it to your monitor too!

Rubyredd, Saturday, 22 December 2007 02:22 (eighteen years ago)

Like Tommy Tippee cups?

Jaq, Saturday, 22 December 2007 02:25 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe something like those traditional gimbaled drink holders?

Aimless, Saturday, 22 December 2007 02:30 (eighteen years ago)

None of these are ringing a bell, even though the phrase "gimbaled drink holder" opened up an alcoholic sailor's Google Paradise. It's possible that this thing was a holder for your drink rather than a glass. If my father was still alive we'd get to the bottom of this. What ever it was, it was probably plaid.

Rubyredd, I've been doing lots of stuff--painting, getting a new dog, learning portuguese (sort of), walking all the trails around my house. That last one has been taking lots of time. I go out at night with no flashlight, let my eyes adjust, then poke around all the abandoned summer houses.
Also, no small amout of tv viewing. Last year's season of all my favorite shows on dvd. The Wire, at the moment.
I promise to be a better ilxor!

Perhaps they had rounded bottoms? That cannot be.

This has given me a brilliant vision of dishware for the Weeble Wobbles.
