I do between 80 and 90 cards every year and I try to write something personal on all of them. The relatives I have severely mixed feelings about get, "Merry Christmas and I hope you have a happy new year!" on theirs, though. I think that is probably all that is strictly necessary, to be honest.

Does anyone feel funny sending xmas cards to relatives they see evry day? I do.

xpost Don't be impressed; I am insane.

Abbott, I can only be pleased that I don't see any of my relatives every day. But yeah, that would feel a little weird, I guess.

If anyone has a handy trick for when you have used a pen that apparently won't ever dry that would be awesome, as the hairdrier is doing nothing except making them smell of burning and hair salons, and it is already half ten pm on Christmas eve, which is maybe a bit late to be thinking of cards for the neighbours (and, uh, the barman of a pub which shuts at 11).

(sigh.)

Blot the ink with another piece of paper repeatedly until it looks like no more ink is rubbing off onto the blotting paper.

is it poor form to refrence the persons' gift in the card? even if you don't give away what it is?
