Can anyone explain why my Christmas tree moves?

I only noticed after Christmas that my tree has drank all of the water so I reckon thirst is a major contributor here, but my tree has been shivering and moving for the past few days.

It's some sort of fir, a Nordman I think, don't know if that makes any difference, but every so often it shivers and a shower of needles fall to the floor.

What the hell it this all about? Why is my tree moving? And it's not just small shivers, sometimes it gives a large shake that leaves the baubles swinging for a minute - sometimes I expect it to groan or sigh as it does this.

Any ideas??

Possible urban legend: someone bought some kind of plant for in their living room (just a tube shaped bamboo-like stick that leaves sprout out of after a while, don't know the name) and it shivered every time they watered it. Turns out: hundreds of little exotic spider babies in the hollow trunk!

soil subsidence would be my guess

My tree has not seen soil for some time - it is impaled on a metal spike in my living room.

The spider story is not reassuring.

an escaped christmas turkey is nesting in the upper branches

This is one of the most famous urban legends there is.

Variations:

* The plant is a cactus or a yucca, and it begins to shake, whine, or hum.

Yep, a yucca.

Impaled on a metal spike???

Maybe the insides of the tree become wet and slippery every time you water it and it slips down the spike a little bit?

It's still freaked out from when Santa came out of the fireplace and put gifts under it.

i think you have a g-g-ghost tree!@#@!

It can't be moving down the spike, the hole is too wee.

As for watering, I've been neglecting the poor thing, he hasn't been watered since before Christmas. I didn't notice the bowl was dry until we moved the presents on Christmas day. By that stage we thought, fuck it.

We have no pets but the way the branches move is similar to a small bird fluttering in it.

I'm afraid I'll wake one night with the tree looming over me.

Don't worry, you'll soon come to find out that the ghost tree was just mean ol' Mr. Robertson in disguise, wanting to drive out all the old tenants so he can raise real estate prices.
