Space Needle fireworks glitched twice. The best part is the lack anything going on while the dramatic music continues... twice!

It was kinda like a Seahawks game.

the "FUCK YEAH" around the 4-5 minute mark live on TV was awesome.

This YouTube lacks the hosts being caught making out after camera cut, unfortunately.

Hail, surely.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 05:05 (sixteen years ago) link

no, it was freezing rain. It wasn't a thunderhead type thing. These were mostly clear little bits of ice, not big honkin white spheres of pain.

Mackro Mackro, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 05:08 (sixteen years ago) link

Tiny cubes? Were you caught in a cubic storm?

The Reverend, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 10:05 (sixteen years ago) link

I had my own interesting storm happening. Driving home this evening, there was a discarded christmas tree right in the middle of the street. I pulled over and dragged it to the sidewalk, wondering how many people had driven around it without doing anything about it.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 10:53 (sixteen years ago) link

People have been leaving tableaus? art projects? installations? next to our street-level door for the past few weeks. Parts of a futon assembled like a fence with a fir tree and an office chair within. A crown from one of the many Nutcracker statues and a pile of empties. This last Sunday's (another tree/chair combo) was accompanied by a serious dusting of flour. Maybe someone was coming to set one up your way Rev and it fell off the bicycle.

Will post pics of the beautiful Olympic Mtns I took from the rooftop of my work building this morning.
(brrrr oooh ahhh)

Mackro Mackro, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 17:19 (sixteen years ago) link

OK, the roof was like an ice-rink, so I couldn't navigate easily, but i was able to snap this. Apparently we got more snow on the ground than the Olympic Peninsula did(?), based on closer inspection. At least it was a clear enough morning, although hazy from the city sublimating.

Lingbert, Thursday, 9 October 2008 04:41 (sixteen years ago) link

my family stayed in a little house in Ballard right on the water by the locks, and there was a little restaurant near there (pretty sure it had "lock" in the name -- maybe "The Lock Spot"?) that I remember having pretty good clam chowder. it was pretty cold and rainy the day we went there, though, so any soup probably would've tasted good. also, our waiter was overly friendly and gave everybody nicknames. my mom was "slowpoke" because she couldn't decide what she wanted to order. I think my little sister was "sport". despite this, the meal was still enjoyable.

As a hopeful close to this thread, looks like David Schmader is going to be riffing on bad movies throughout December -- as he did on the Showgirls DVD. Here's the full link.

http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2008/12/03/starting_next_monday_night_at

It happens at the Central Cinema, and here's the movie schedule

MON DEC 8: Battlefield Earth
MON DEC 15: Leonard Part 6
MON DEC 22: Can't Stop the Music
MON DEC 29: Road House
MON JAN 5: Rhinestone
MON JAN 12: Gigli

You can probably count me in for Can't Stop The Music on 12/22

Gino-Vanellyville (Mackro Mackro), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 23:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Schmader's commentaries are fun; I hope to catch at least one of these (maybe Road House, though Leonard Part 6 would also be great).

Seattle folks, we are planning a holiday open house at our new flat, either for the 20th or the 27th. Cast your votes now, and hope to see you all there.

Jaq, Thursday, 4 December 2008 00:00 (sixteen years ago) link
