The prerelease reviews were disastrous. One would think it was a monument to unintentional kitsch. But somehow the critical appraisal seems to be turning around somewhat--at the very least, people seem willing to indulge it as a kind of intriguing (or even magnificent) folly.

What do you think?

i haven't seen it. maybe just based on the trailer, the idea of this movie completely repulsed me.

It is a repulsive concept, or maybe the word insulting is more apt. But the film actually works to a surprising degree, and the bombastic visuals do have a genuinely compelling strangeness.
