Went for BDSM, assuming we're talking "scene" dudes with tapered Ming the Merciless goattees, rather than Daisy Lowe softcore porn.

Animal rights activists. Bunch of cunts. I love animals as much as the next person, but digging up and hiding corpses isn't going to win anybody over.

Anyway, I don't want to say there's anything inherently wrong with any of these subcultures, I thought a poll would just raise some interesting discussion, like with the geek poll.

at the risk of sounding jaded I have to say being a biker isn't what it used to be, now it's more of a fashion statement or an expensive hobby. when I was a kid the local motorcycle gang was pretty fucking scary.

this is brutally difficult. they're all such valid choices. i went with nudists not because of their nudity but because of their fucking superiority over people who, uhh, like to be warmer than them, and their weird fucking naked = zen shit. they're worse than surfers (where are surfers on this thread btw?)

I voted for animal rights activists, on the basis that they're the only people on the list who (a) are nastily threatening to other people (b) at least in theory, want to kill large numbers of people.

Nudists are annoying (even though Zen Nudism isn't something you get in Britain; the British Naturist community is a mixture of leathery-skinned "I've been doing it for years and look how healthy I am" skin cancer statistics-in-waiting; and libertarian "I have the RIGHT to be naked whenever I want and NOONE can stop me! FREEEEDOM!" lunatic types.) Furries are creepy. But neither of them want to threaten or kill people.

(oh, and the middle-aged leather-waistcoated sector of the BDSM crowd are just sad. They think they're special and "out there" because they go to private clubs and do something they think is mildly subversive; when really they're as conformist as any of the groups listed above)

If you follow the link to the site where the pic originally came from, it's pretty obvious the "steam punk" bit is just a joke. It's a site for pics of crappy fixup jobs, and whoever submitted pic (probably not the person who fixed the sink) simply named it "tapping into steam punk" for laughs.

I'm not sure if it's a self-defined subculture or anything, but they certainly are a faction among Finnish metalheads. Can't tell much more about it, as my knowledge of metal is really limited.

A google search on "Fantasy Metal" turns up Lorenguard from Lafayette, Indiana. They wear puffy shirts in their promo photos, but not one of them has floppy ears, a pocketwatch, or a banjo.
