6 months on - what has changed

6 months since the buildings crumbled, what has changed? Meg ryan still makes awful movies, the US govt continues to support massive oil rots and foreign invasions in the name of its own policies, and I saw a double CD called "Men are from mars and women are from venus" the other day, based, apparently on the evil book itself.

Has life changed for you?

Checking on AlterNet and StratFor regularly now, relying on the BBC for popcorn news after I couldn't bear to look at CNN's site after everything happened thanks to all the flag-waving nonsense, and regarding BushCo's doings with more of a gimlet eye than ever.

But beyond that? Not much. More flags around here than before, but much less talk than you might expect, though certainly UCI and my own social circle make for a fairly cossetted environment.

cossetted, corsetted or cloistered?

Queen G, Monday, 11 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

cossetted, corsetted or cloistered?

Crumpled, actually.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 11 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

to answer the question : No.

Six months later, Islam has become nothing more than a glorified cult.

And the people of New York want all this shit to go away because we have work to do and don't have time for all this crying stuff that seems to happen every month anyway...

Round New York way? Not much, unless you count the lack of one-finger salutes tossed, since drivers appear to actually *have* some patience.

Me personally? I've more of a daring streak, and found a (slightly) higher tolerance for the innocent.

Nichole Graham, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know more about Islam now, and am less likely to assume that other people have the same ideas and beliefs as me. I also have stopped taking life for granted and have recognised the utter arbitrariness of life/ death. this, although not particularly changing has made me think a lot more about what I do and what I want to do. Also, rather embarassingly, I found God. That was quite unexpected and I won't talk about it here.

>> Also, rather embarassingly, I found God.

Where was he? Down the back of the sofa?

AP, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, here's a story that makes you think about what's happened for this guy. One can only hope.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And what did God have to say on the subject of Pokemon?

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

have just heard a story (don't know whether it's true) that Geri Halliwell's about to play in New York, and when asked by a journalist whether she'd be visiting Ground Zero, replied "i don't know... is that a bar or a restaurant?" so it appears that nothing has changed in Geri World!

THE BINT!

I think the only thing that's changed round 'ere is that my dad (who travels for a living more or less)'s plans for combatting hijackers have become a bit more extreme.

DG, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

did anyone have terror sex? if so, what was it like?

Queen G, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was wallowing in a relationship collapse just before it all happened, so alas, none for me.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

alix what is embarassing about you finding god? the circumstances (= fear??) of it?

ethan, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Six months on I have my suitcase back, or at least it's in London, somewhere near Old Street I do believe.

Almost all that I foresaw happening from september 12th has happened, apart from the attack on Iraq, which will come. I was surprised how quickly 11/9/01 was exploited by politicians , business and the media world wide. That took less than a week.

Ed, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

he was advertising his skillz on a little card in a soho phonebooth, ethan

Oh, I have been very averse to religion for as long as I can remember. As I'm a stupidly stubborn person admitting I'm wrong is hard. Believing in something isn't very me. It's pathetic, I know, but I was surprised myself. And it's such a cliche too! But I'm not all that bothered now. I'm happy.

alix, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If you are happy, then that is what matters. :-)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I had terror-move-in-with-somebody, let me tell you something, I don't know about that sort of behavior. I don't think much has changed besides loads of dead people and big huge shafts of lights coming up from the ground instead of buildings. Lowered economy, our hotel was put off opening. That's about it.

Ally, Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Terror wanking is rife.

N., Thursday, 14 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Lixi finding God is right up there with Dastoor threatening to apply for Big Brother III in the roll call of Very Surprising Things My Friends Have Done. However, in this case, I'm not going to make any discouraging noises.
