The Sweeney - have the years been kind?

I haven't seen an episode of The Sweeney since I was a kid, but I'd be curious to see it again now. Has it aged well or is it all rather ridiculous? The theme tune is still great.

I think it gets shown on ITV4. I never watch it. I've got things to do.

I just heard about the movie today. I used to watch The Sweeney on tv when I was little, I don't really rememember it except for car chases (?) - but this looks good

No, they haven't but there was a great episode on the other day, "Victims", where Haskins' wife has a breakdown and goes missing and Lynda La Plante's boyfriend kills a copper a goes on the lam. Also Regan's rant at the end of the very last episode, which was also on last week, is awesome - John Thaw was so good at rage.

Every day, just before "The Sweeney" comes on, "The Professionals" is on and, though I don't actually watch it because it's fucking crap, I can't help but notice that Pamela Stephenson seems to be in every episode.

In the same period Collins was writing songs with Mike McCartney, and when the drummer Pete Best was dropped from The Beatles, Mike McCartney suggested Collins as a possible replacement to his elder brother Paul McCartney. Turning down the option of an audition with The Beatles, Collins continued playing music on an amateur basis for a number of local bands, including The Eyes, and The Georgians.

Yes, he was in quite a well known band iirc.

He played bass in the Mojos, where his partner in the rhythm section was Aynsley Dunbar!

I'm now imagining The Professionals with Ringo Starr.

Dodgy first Sweeney movie was on last night - well they're all dodgy. Three things of note. Barry Foster was such a class act, especially when playing reprehensible slimeballs. John Thaw has one absolutely classic Regan rant that's almost worth sitting through the rest of the film for. The 70s was definitely the decade for the bleak downbeat ending!
