ARRRRRRRRRRRG, can a mod fix the code for Margin of Error?

Oilyrags, Friday, 11 January 2008 18:11 (eighteen years ago)

i can't even break things down into episodes, since i've watched them all in a row.

Jordan, Friday, 11 January 2008 18:11 (eighteen years ago)

I'm thinking maybe "All Prologue"

Omar gives his testimony, D is murdered, Nick meets with Prop Joe, Sergei confronts Cheese...

Oilyrags, Friday, 11 January 2008 18:17 (eighteen years ago)

i've only seen season 1 (and i wish i hadn't seen the fucking post above. damn) so i've got a lot of catching up to do (have S2 on DVD but no time to watch yet). "cleaning up" was about the best thing i've ever fucking seen in my life, though, so it gets my vote.

not opening this bastarding thread again now ;)

grimly fiendish, Friday, 11 January 2008 18:55 (eighteen years ago)

Ooh man, I woulda killed someone if I got spoiled like that.

youcangoyourownway, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:01 (eighteen years ago)

i wouldnt have touched this thread if i hadnt seen all 4 seasons.

s1ocki, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:02 (eighteen years ago)

I feel badly for Grim, but damn - it does say "up to season 4" in the header. How much spoiler warning does a motherfucker need?

Oilyrags, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:03 (eighteen years ago)

yes, bad move grimly

omar little, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:03 (eighteen years ago)

'final grades' or 'middle ground' for me.

omar little, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:03 (eighteen years ago)

might go 'final grades' if only for the kids and for the final look bodie gives to poot before the latter takes off running.

omar little, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:07 (eighteen years ago)

Donut rolling past Namond.

Oilyrags, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:08 (eighteen years ago)

It's hard to remember individual episodes. Season 4 is the best season though, with 2 following closed behind and 1 just a touch behind that and 3 just a tiny bit behind that.

Alex in SF, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

i figured i'd get in quickly enough that nobody would have posted much. and in fairness: it's almost impossible not to get hit up with spoilers if you're so fucking slow-ass you've only seen season one :)

HANG ON, WHAT AM I DOING BACK ON THE THREAD? FOR FUCK'S SAKE!

grimly fiendish, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:18 (eighteen years ago)

just stop looking at the thread. we promise we won't talk about you after you leave.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:19 (eighteen years ago)

i dunno about grimly, guys

omar little, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

final grades was awesome but there were also tons of other v. awesome eps. i don't know how to choose without rewatching them all and taking detailed notes.

tehresa, Friday, 11 January 2008 19:41 (eighteen years ago)

The Wire is like the least episodic show on TV, so it's kind of hard not to just vote for the season finale of the best season (4). I have no idea what happened in any of these episodes.

31g, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:45 (eighteen years ago)

I have to say the hammer getting brought down on Bunny/Stringer -- I guess "Middle Ground"? -- was the awes. The whole climax/denouement of Season 3, in fact.

Leee, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

you guys do realize that oilyrags included a bunch of wikipedia links that are full of detailed plot descriptions for each episode in case you don't remember which is which, right?

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

Sure, but it didn't occur to me to click on them.

Leee, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:51 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah reading 50 episode descriptions written by idiots sounds like fun. My point is that it doesn't really matter, It's like asking which act Hamlet is best or something.

31g, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

*act in

31g, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

"It's like asking which act in Hamlet is best or something."

POLL!

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:21 (eighteen years ago)

Alex in SF OTM.

Seasons and scenes, yes - but I saw the first three seasons on DVD in a day or two apiece. For four (and five) it's been pretty weird waiting from week to week (or leak to leak).

milo z, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

yess! i watched 4 seasons in this crazy month long marathon... now i am dying in anticipation of ep 3

tehresa, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:26 (eighteen years ago)

got that snoop pearson book in the mail : D

omar little, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:26 (eighteen years ago)

'That's Got His Own'--- 'You gonna look out for ME?'

MaggieGo, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

fave part of Final Grades is Bodie on the bench w/ McNulty - "I do what I gotta. I don't give a fuck! Just don't ask me to live on my fucking knees, you know?" That one line seems to encapsulate everything the series is about better than a hundred of Simon's "it's about capitalism" interviews.

milo z, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:35 (eighteen years ago)

"A New Day" (3rd last episode of Season 4)

Freamon gets to do actual work and solves a longstanding mystery in about 5 minutes. McNulty and Bodie meet up and have their first chat. Also it was this episode in which I first noticed the huge negative consequences of Herc's lousy policework. It turned the season from being very good into being the best season of any show ever.

abanana, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

Not to mention Carcetti making promises.

Oilyrags, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:49 (eighteen years ago)

i say "middle ground" as well

daria-g, Friday, 11 January 2008 23:38 (eighteen years ago)

bump

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 03:36 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 17 January 2008 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

Argh, I'm only up to episode 5 of season 4 but there is *no way* I could choose one. Though I have a soft spot for any scene featuring Omar with a big gun swinging under his coat. Fnar.

Madchen, Thursday, 17 January 2008 12:52 (eighteen years ago)

i picked middle ground but my favourite line belongs to Bunny - "get on with it motherf..." from the episode after.

maybe someone with WAY too much time on their hands can start a Wire quotes poll!

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Thursday, 17 January 2008 19:21 (eighteen years ago)

Yah! The episode after "Middle Ground" is the one I picked! After Burrell/Rawls strip him down at Comstat, that wide-angle shot of Bunny saluting Mello was that rare bit of The Wire visual flair that I'll never forget.

Leee, Thursday, 17 January 2008 21:06 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe a Wire epigraph poll?

Leee, Thursday, 17 January 2008 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

^^^
THAT

I can barely bring myself to watch the last season now (esp. given what I've read about it), everything feels so sad and wrapped up tight

RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 24 March 2014 01:11 (eleven years ago)

I thought the last season was brilliant. It takes some big chances but it all works spectacularly.
