did this yesterday at my favorite neighborhood japanese place for brunch and then dinner.

brunch special comes with: soup, mini chirashi, banana spring rolls, choice of entree (i got salmon teriyaki) etc.

for dinner i had buta kakuni appetizer and really excellent seafood sukiyaki.

i would do this again! is that weird? boring? indulgent?

CLASSIC

I think I've only done this in St Petersburg, Fla.

Classic. Also ingratiates you with the staff.

Matt DC, Monday, 14 January 2008 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

Think I did this at Subway once.

Dud if you do it at "Life Cafe Bushwick"

sexyDancer, Monday, 14 January 2008 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

this is esp. classic in places with only a few good places to eat obv

J0rdan S., Monday, 14 January 2008 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

i did this at, um, chipotle (free burrito day on occasion of the 8th street nyc branch opening) (i'm disgusting)

I don't do this very often (I did go to a falafel place 3 times in 2 days), but I do find myself having the same thing at two different places for lunch and dinner (usually burgers).

I guess being on holiday, or "on-site staying at hotel" does not count.

Mark G, Monday, 14 January 2008 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

i actually rly like to do this, b/c i like cultivating my "regular" status in the neighborhood

yup

Surmounter, Monday, 14 January 2008 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

I did this just before Christmas tho not exactly through choice - a work party at lunchtime and a friend's birthday for dinner.

It was good though because when it came to dinner I knew what dishes on the menu would come out looking horrible ie. most of them.

Classic? Sure. Why not?

B.L.A.M., Monday, 14 January 2008 17:53 (eighteen years ago)

I haven't done this too often where I actually went to the restaurant to eat, but pretty often I'll get two lunch specials to go from a local Chinese place, and save the one that reheats better for dinner that night or lunch the next day.

Rock Hardy, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:07 (eighteen years ago)

I don't recall ever doing it, but it sounds classic!

Same bar twice in one day, though, yeah. Yup.......

Life Cafe (Bushwick) is utter garbage.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 14 January 2008 20:02 (eighteen years ago)

Doing it because you want to = incredibly classic; I mean, you've found a place where both food + atmosphere are good enough for two-a-days, which is terrific, and plus they'd better notice and love you now, hooray

Doing it out of lack of options, lack of time, or laziness = SO depressing, and leads to all kinds of symbolic despair about the value of life

Diners don't count

nabisco, Monday, 14 January 2008 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

I do this with Wahoo's.

Spencer Chow, Monday, 14 January 2008 23:10 (eighteen years ago)

We went to Sonic 2x today but we did not buy anything the first time. The cheesecake bites are weird. They kind of remind me of dog treats, but I don't think I should feed them to my dog.

when I lived in a NY apt w/no kitchen I was compelled to do this often out of necessity, best bet was a cheap diner on 14th st where I was basically the only regular under 65, the old gents would go 3 times a day.

I think japanese food lends itself to this better than heavier fare.

m coleman, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 13:20 (eighteen years ago)

back in the day -- before my day -- in the heyday of cafeterias and the automat NYers did this a lot.

m coleman, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 13:23 (eighteen years ago)

My parents used to own a restaurant so I did this loads of times there but I'm not sure I've actually done it anywhere else. I might have to try once I find somewhere I like enough.

Once had lunch at the Peach Tree southern food restaurant in KC right before going to the Negro League Baseball Museum right next door, and liked it so much that I had dinner there afterwards. Classic, except that I was feeling adventurous after ordering conservatively at lunch, and got the oxtail for dinner, which was a little much.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 15 January 2008 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

classic if it's because the restaurant is SO GOOD.

dud if it's because there aren't other decent places to go.

ken c, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

If it's a nice place, then having lunch and dropping by later for a coffee or a drink in the evening equals classic.
