I wonder if I can get my work to swap out my peecee lappy for an Air.

libcrypt, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 18:16 (eighteen years ago)

I'd rather buy a Mac Pro and regular MacBook than a beefed up MacBook Pro

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 18:18 (eighteen years ago)

That'd be a fine line of reasoning if the MBs didn't all have small screens.

libcrypt, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 18:20 (eighteen years ago)

What do you do on the road that needs a big screen

DG, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 18:38 (eighteen years ago)

MB would be just about perfect w/ LED backlit screen and a matte option.

What do you do on the road that needs a big screen

Illustrator, Photoshop, Xcode, watch movies. And it's a lot easier to do just about anything with more screen real estate.

libcrypt, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

Xcode is awful

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 20:28 (eighteen years ago)

you could start a thread like this for almost any apple product released since jobs took over. everytime there's a keynote people are all "but the features don't justify the price!" and I'm like "THEN GO TO NEWEGG OR WHATEVER FFS" it's like making jokes about airline food!!

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 20:33 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, Apple products are not as cheap (in several senses of the word) as PCs. If you don't think they're worth the money, don't buy em!

libcrypt, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 21:52 (eighteen years ago)

They depreciate in value at a much slower rate than PCs.

Abbott, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 21:54 (eighteen years ago)

I hope they last longer than PCs, because when mine dies, I'm not replacing it with another Mac. I'll be too poor. It's not TWICE as good as a PC but it's almost twice the cost!

Maria, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 21:56 (eighteen years ago)

Apples are only more expensive because the 'product matrix' is stupid. "Want a desktop so you don't need five external HDs daisychained for your pirated movies, stolen Adobe products and porn? $2500, bitch."

milo z, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:05 (eighteen years ago)

I remember way back when in the early 90s when apple computers were actually on par with most comparable x86 hardware

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

It's not always that bad - the 15" MBP w/ 7200rpm upgrade comes out $50 more than a 15" Thinkpad+7200rpm+XP.

milo z, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:32 (eighteen years ago)

Hey the sony TZ which is meant to be the competitor model starts at $2099, of course that is smaller but it has a much slower processor.

WTF?

G00blar, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 23:10 (eighteen years ago)

Even so, the Air isn’t for everyone. Bargain hunters, feature counters and people who don’t see the value of elegance — in general, the same people who despised the iPhone before it came out — would be better off with a bigger, less expensive, more complete laptop. -- David Pogue

Well, at least a better than those four.

five years pass...

The trackpad in my two - year old MBA has gone into permanently clicked mode. The battery, housed beneath, seems to be swelling a bit. The downside to this is that I have to use a mouse at all times. I guess there is something to be said for a slightly bigger case after all.

More Than a Century With the Polaris Emblem (calstars), Thursday, 18 July 2013 22:32 (twelve years ago)

three months pass...

uh, does anyone know how to change the icloud account the macbook uses? i changed my apple id for some stupid reason and it fucked literally everything up, i've cleaned up the mess for the most part but i don't think my phone and laptop are talking because the icloud on my phone has my new ID but the laptop has the old one. going to icloud settings doesn't let you change the apple id box...

k3vin k., Tuesday, 22 October 2013 05:45 (twelve years ago)

The users and groups pref pane? I can see a set apple ID button there.

woof, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 05:55 (twelve years ago)

i think i just had to delete my iclouds and sign in with new ones. i think i lost some stuff in the transfer, but whatever. way to suck, apple

xp huh, i just went to that and it already has my new ID, must have changed when i signed in with the new account. but maybe doing that first would have been better. ah well
