like i think i've had nightmares about this

When I did a lot of caving the instructors used to say that cave diving had a 1 in four risk of death, I presume this is career rather than per dive.

Never met anyone who did this, but through my dad I once met a couple of dudes who dove in filled-up copper mines.

i've been caving once, in yorkshire, and while i enjoyed it, the stories i heard were hair-raising

apparently they often find manatee skeletons in the underground rivers b/c the manatees get disoriented and lost

Might be taking a bunch of kids caving next month, depends on whether i have a job by then. I guess a sump might be the nearest we get.

I think my flatmate is going cave diving in Tasmania or South Australia (can't remember which) next week.

like what if someone dies down there? stumbling upon a failed cave diver while you yourself are diving is basically the worst thing i can imagine

Doing SRT with acetylene lamps and dodgy ascenders is as risky as I'm willing to go.

especially if the cave is haunted by a malevolent supernatural force and their remains are animated to kill any intruders and you have to fight them off with a knife. but if you win, you get treasure, and a chance to level up.

yes this is terrifying. but i'm sure there's tons of good treasure.

i wld only cave dive if my life depended on it like if i was being chased by the aliens from aliens or human-mole underground monsters

I'm also afraid of that extreme cliff-diving sport where high winds just might slap you into the side of the cliff.

getting disoriented under water def has been some of the more frightening moments in my life

that's why i stopped bathing

or the kind of cliff diving where you have to time your dive so you hit the water when the wave is coming in (so it's like 13 feet deep) not going out (when it's only 2 feet deep). sooo not doing that.
