if i wanna take on an additional $3,000 in debt and have the craziest summer of my life and maybe get scoffed at if i ever try to teach out of state, i might go for an alternative teaching certification program this summer.

Hey I'm a long-term-mostly-lurker and I can relate...I'm in the exact same position.

Also I'm in France this year, which doesn't make things easier.

I've got one more week of class, then I'm done.

Two and a half years ago I was in San Antonio sitting on the floor outside my bedroom. I was in one of those multi-lease places where each bedroom had its own lock, and I'd managed to lock myself out. I'd stumbled home on a Sunday morning, so the maintanence office was closed. I was broke and couldn't afford a locksmith. So I was hungover, locked out, and trying to slide my fingers under the door to grab a manila envelope just on the other side. It was my lease for a new apartment in Austin. My way out. I couldn't reach it.

As tends to happen at bottom-of-the-barrel moments, the whole thing metaphorized in front of my face and I broke down. I remember very clearly thinking "this is it. I'm never gonna finish school. I'm never gonna get out of this town. I'll lose her. What's the point?"

From fall 05 to spring 08 has been a rough ride. Two more colleges, lost friends, broken down cars, lots of trust lost and regained. There's been a lot of hurt, but I'm here now.
