wtf @ this place

gr8080, Monday, 21 January 2008 11:06 (eighteen years ago)

Because getting shitfaced at Chuck E. Cheese is such a hassle.

Kerm, Monday, 21 January 2008 11:40 (eighteen years ago)

do they have gameworks in hawaii?

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 January 2008 11:45 (eighteen years ago)

gameworks is def classic

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 January 2008 11:45 (eighteen years ago)

they don't accept non-US passports as valid I.D.

um, WTF?

czn, Monday, 21 January 2008 11:55 (eighteen years ago)

The commercial where the guy sits in his car and starts daydreaming of playing Pole Position or whatever with his co-worker in accounting is so bad.

If you're an adult and you're receiving TOKENS with your beer and wings, you need to self-assess a few things.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 21 January 2008 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

yes, you need to carefully assess how many more times you can afford to play House of the Dead 4.

kenan, Monday, 21 January 2008 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know if Jean Teasdale is still writing her column but if she is I wouldn't be surprised to some day read about how she accompanied her colleagues from the Fashion Bug out to D&B's for a St. Patrick's Day party or something.

iiiijjjj, Monday, 21 January 2008 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

wtf is right.

in my youth, this place was essentially where my extraordinarily wealthy catholic godmother and her extraordinarily wealthy catholic friends would take us kids to play games whilst they got shitfaced.

godmother's apartment is on 72nd and madison, right next to the Ralph Lauren store.

the table is the table, Monday, 21 January 2008 16:43 (eighteen years ago)

(that said, she grew up dirt poor. actually a prime example of 'the american dream' working for reals).

the table is the table, Monday, 21 January 2008 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

dudes you just go and play video games at this place what's the big deal

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 January 2008 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

ok, look here, haters. The package deal thing they do where you get an entree and a bunch of tokens for $15 isn't a bad deal. The food is pretty standard Bennigan's-type fare, which means it ain't winning no awards, but you can get a burger that'll do you up right. And the D&B's next to my office is always blissfully empty and even kinda quiet.

kenan, Monday, 21 January 2008 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

Ah, I'm here at my favorite Dave and Buster's restaurant, right next to my office. I'm done up right by a burger that did not win any awards. It's empty, it's quiet. In a word? Bliss! :-)

jaymc, Monday, 21 January 2008 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

empty & quiet = rarely filled with screaming knee-biters

kenan, Monday, 21 January 2008 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

But filled with ass-kissers.

Listen: I'm not saying adults can't play video games in public. There's a pizza place I frequent that has gained many a quarter from me with their Galaga machine.

But playing skee-ball in a glorified Showbiz Pizza and running around with your tickets trailing out of your pockets, drunk on Michelob and Hot N' Tasty Jalepeno Poppers is no way for an adult to act.

It's like they took a Bennigan's and made it worse.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 21 January 2008 17:22 (eighteen years ago)

this place kind of gives me a headache

carne asada, Monday, 21 January 2008 17:24 (eighteen years ago)

Oh this place is the SHRINE to the Hey Bro Hey Tiger Want Some Expensive Appetizers, Big Brutha? type of food service that has your hands ready to strangle.

Mackro Mackro, Monday, 21 January 2008 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT THE FOOD AT DAVE & BUSTERS

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 January 2008 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

you go to play arcade games!! who cares if the chicken fingers are good

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 January 2008 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

Because

a) there are always better places to play video games
b) it's a popular places for companies to force encourage morale after the finish of a big project, and you have to deal with the whole restaurant side of it, shit-eatting grin, and count the seconds to leave

Mackro Mackro, Monday, 21 January 2008 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

but I no longer live in Orange County, so that's all in the past now.

Mackro Mackro, Monday, 21 January 2008 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

PP otm.

skeeball is hella fun but this place is a dud.

gr8080, Monday, 21 January 2008 17:58 (eighteen years ago)

you guys are old

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 January 2008 17:58 (eighteen years ago)

So are the patrons of Dave & Buster's.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 21 January 2008 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

capn save-a-buster
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 January 2008 18:03 (eighteen years ago)

What, I thought they only let adults into this place. kids actually can go there?

I know, from people telling me that 1. You can't go to Chuck E. Cheese's without someone younger than 18 accompanying you and 2. people sometimes go there to get drunk. ?!?!?!? Do they serve alcohol?

I've never been in either of these places bcz I have really bad feelings around arcade games.

Abbott, Monday, 21 January 2008 18:11 (eighteen years ago)

There's this stripmall laundromat in San Diego that has some arcade games in it and it's sandwiched between a dive bar and a taco shop. That's like all the fun of a Dave and Busters, at half the price, twice the functionality, and with better food.

iiiijjjj, Monday, 21 January 2008 18:11 (eighteen years ago)

b) it's a popular places for companies to force encourage morale after the finish of a big project, and you have to deal with the whole restaurant side of it, shit-eating grin, and count the seconds to leave

Oh holy fucking fuck "motivational activities." The biggest reward a boss can give to encourage morale would be like, "okay guys, go home early, you'll still get paid."

Abbott, Monday, 21 January 2008 18:14 (eighteen years ago)

D&B is about the best place to play pool in San Jose. This says more about SJ than D&B.

libcrypt, Monday, 21 January 2008 18:15 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, Abbott. J0rdan called you a capn save-a-buster.
