There's Alex on ILM - isn't he German? But not on ILE, no, not that I know of. Mind you, there are lots of nationalities missing. Do we even have any French?
Tee hee.

I think Winter/Sommer/Herbstmute was German? And there's definitely been one or two French posters.
I have a theory that in all those big countries, like Germany and Spain, where they dub all the English-language TV series and movies into their local language, people tend to know English worse than in countries like Sweden and Finland, where we use subtitles instead. Subtitled TV and movies are actually very good at teaching you English. Also, I think the bigger the country, the more likely it is that there exist quality message boards on music (and other stuff) in the local language. One of the reasons I've become regular here is that there simply isn't any message board as good as ILX in Finnish. Maybe this would explain why most non-Anglo poster here are from the smaller European countries?

a big culture difference is the answer
― Zeno, Saturday, 21 June 2008 16:01 (seventeen years ago)
we don't have that many continental euros in general though rite?
― banriquit, Saturday, 21 June 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)
it's logical that someone from a non- english language country will feel a bit like an alien here.

still, you are the only one from finland, arent you?
― Zeno, Saturday, 21 June 2008 16:07 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, but Finland has like the tenth of the population of France or Germany or Poland, which I why I was wondering why those countries don't have more posters here, as they should statistically?
― Tuomas, Saturday, 21 June 2008 16:11 (seventeen years ago)
the culture difference, the humour difference, the language difference.
― Zeno, Saturday, 21 June 2008 16:14 (seventeen years ago)
in the fraternal spirit of post-meta-snark ilx i will refrain from saying 'they wouldn't get all the culturally specific references'.
― banriquit, Saturday, 21 June 2008 16:15 (seventeen years ago)
the original question is somewhat like asking why isn't there a world piece, or why immmigrants having hard time to become integrated in a new country
― Zeno, Saturday, 21 June 2008 16:18 (seventeen years ago)
And do you think these are differences are bigger between the English speaking countries and Germany or France, than with Belgium, Estonia, Norway, Finland, Sweden, or Netherlands, which have all had regular posters here?
(xx-post)
― Tuomas, Saturday, 21 June 2008 16:18 (seventeen years ago)
i think you cant say 2-3 posters from a country is "regular posters", or use them as statistics. there could have been 2 users from germany, and that would also mean nothing.
the non english countries are too much of a minoruty in general to make any conclusion
― Zeno, Saturday, 21 June 2008 16:22 (seventeen years ago)
I think the bigger countries are simply more self-sufficient both linguistically (less need and chances to learn good English) and when it comes to quality web sites, whereas people from smaller countries need to reach out more.

if,on the other hand, there would be 50 users from Sweden or whereever, than one could ask "how come sweden like ile so much?
― Zeno, Saturday, 21 June 2008 16:25 (seventeen years ago)
Well yeah, of course it's not proper objective statistics, but I think it's interesting to think about why so many non-English speaking regular in here have been from the smaller European countries rather than the big ones.
