not a question really, but i dont know if people have talked about it. just wanted to say that the russians havev banned all US chicken imports - sounds absurd but half of americas chicken exports go to russia so the poultry idustry is apparently fucked in america due to this. the russians claim that is it due to queries of quality in the chicken, but obviously is just cheap tit-for-tat sort of childish reaction to the steel tariffs. but then again maybe that is the best way to deal with bush......classic russian thing to do though... see here

i live about a block away from a hatchery, and it is the worst smelling place in town when it rains. I toured the thing afew weeks ago with some friends, and it was complete crass. guts and feathers all over the place. i mean, i'll still grub on some chik-filla though.

the tariff is a classic case of the govt choosing winners, so a few steelworkers keep their jobs by artificial means and the rest of amaerica is given, in essence, a tax increase. the steel industry has claimed dumping by foreign producers 33 out of 33 years since the anti-dumping legislation was passed allowing domestic producers to raise their prices with impunity. this whole myth that manufacturing jobs are better than service jobs is pointless in its persistence. funny thing is the japanese and koreans are all using american technology to produce steel more efficiently but dinosaur steel companies here refuse to modernize.
