I'm a Prince man which provokes laughter and scorn from those of my friends who are actually any good. Most of them use Wilson.

I wish I still had my Spectrum Comp with Prism strings from 6th grade. I swear I slept with that thing.

You must at least concede that the Spectrum Comp was better than the Wilson Ceramic, no offense Jennifer Capriati circa '90.

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 25 January 2008 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

i had a spectrum comp midsize when i was 17. but years before i had a donnay borg pro with the extra long grip that will always be the coolest racquet ever

those micro steel racquets that connors used were cool, but unplayable as far as i could tell

Hunt3r, Friday, 25 January 2008 22:14 (eighteen years ago)

there are a few candidates for coolest racquet ever. The Prince Magnesium Pro that Pat Cash used. Maybe the Prince Boron because it was so expensive and (hence) no one actually owned one. The Yamaha secret 04 because it just looked cool.

More country club brat geekery!

I loved my old wooden Slazenger Firepower - when I retired it (Xmas '85 - parents got me a Wilson American Ace) I wrote my match record on the throat in pencil! Scrabulous stats always remind me of that.

Next was a generic Donnay graphite composite that I had for 16 years but only really used regularly for the first three. Most recently I bought a cheap Dunlop in a Lillywhite's sale. I think I've played with it twice...

I'll vote for Yonex because the last time I handled one it felt (and looked) great. It was about four times my budget, however. Never liked Prince, Rossignol or Volkl; boyhood Borg fandom was probably the reason I bought a Donnay. Henman the reason I wouldn't go near a Slazenger. I like the classic, simple designs of Wilson & Head too (didn't get on with the former's Hammer though).

Michael Jones, Friday, 25 January 2008 22:45 (eighteen years ago)

the Hammers were bad. Big, ugly, expensive and no weight in the head.

My favorite racquet ever was probably my CTS Lightning or Head Ti Radical. Worst ever was the Prince Response or an early Hammer model.

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 25 January 2008 22:56 (eighteen years ago)

i've just stuck with my Wilson Hammer thing for so long, I can't use anything else. it just rocks. it's light, great head shape, and i just hit well with it

i'm playing tomorrow i'm so EFFING EXCITED

I just thought of one we missed: Snauwaert. Didn't Gerulaitis use one of these? Also Pernfors.
