I can sense the tumult to come. In my BONES!

The Reverend, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

because menswear has a strongly traditional and rigidly delineated code for professional formal dress, and apparel for women in traditionally male professional roles borrows from the same menswear code because there is no comparable code for formal womenswear?

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

Because women in dresses get asked to stuff gift bags in their "spare" time. Happened to me on Saturday. Did the bagpiper have to spend an hour doing busy-work? I think not.

Laurel, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

Thatcher never wore anything but dresses

Tom D., Tuesday, 29 January 2008 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

Someone post a picture of Cicciolina asap.

Q: Why don't female politicans wear dresses?

A: Don't want to get boned by Embarchie.

ken c, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 17:13 (eighteen years ago)

I cld swear they wore like Jackie-O type dress suits. In fact this was keeping me awake last night, thinking how the only one I could think of who matched Miss Manners' rules for appropriate dress at times of day was Jackie O. And then maybe 'did Jackie O set the standard for female political dress insofar as what one wears as far as dresses or skirted items?' I am thinking: yes.

Miss Manners v. a first lady.

Abbott, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

Thatcher's nutsack woulda stuck out in a pantsuit.

Eppy, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:28 (eighteen years ago)

That sentence is mesmerizing.

Miss Manners is so beautiful and dignified!

I forgot no one wears gloves or hats anymore.

Abbott, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:29 (eighteen years ago)

I do not think this should have invoked so much foolish controversy:

those boots are fierce

The Brainwasher, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:31 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno I think part of the joy of having a female president would be her FABULOSITY.. and when she wears pant-suits and has awful hair it's like.. whats the point?

The Brainwasher, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:32 (eighteen years ago)

xpost It's something about the 2-syllable plosives-to-sibilant run of the nutsack/pantsuit combo.

Eppy, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:32 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

i think this is what sunk hilary's campaign tbh

The Brainwasher, Saturday, 23 February 2008 23:11 (eighteen years ago)

the garish pant-suits

The Brainwasher, Saturday, 23 February 2008 23:11 (eighteen years ago)

and that awful yellow blazer she always wears with the black lining on the collar

The Brainwasher, Saturday, 23 February 2008 23:12 (eighteen years ago)

The lack of a flag pin.

Abbott, Saturday, 23 February 2008 23:14 (eighteen years ago)

the collar on the blazer she was wearing during the last debate baffled me

J0rdan S., Saturday, 23 February 2008 23:14 (eighteen years ago)

See, men can put on the same fucking identical suit, tie and oxford shirt. All of them! Every single male can dress exactly the same and be a sharp-dressed (or passably professional) man. There's no equivalent instantly acceptable uniform for women, which is a pain in the ass. That said, fucking Ellen dresses better than Hillary. (Ellen dresses pretty nice IMO.)

Abbott, Saturday, 23 February 2008 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

she needs a cape

latebloomer, Saturday, 23 February 2008 23:18 (eighteen years ago)

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 23 February 2008 23:47 (eighteen years ago)

haha i mistook mookie for latebloomer! i am so disappointed

roxymuzak, Saturday, 23 February 2008 23:50 (eighteen years ago)

Ellen dresses awesome but she's also built kind of like a teenage boy? Haaaarrrrrd to find flattering pants/suits when you are a normal middle-aged woman (who has been delivered of at least one childrens). Still, I have to agree abt the "power" wardrobe, yikes.

Laurel, Sunday, 24 February 2008 02:09 (eighteen years ago)

What Not To Wear crew always seem to track down totally decent trouser for the ladies.

Abbott, Sunday, 24 February 2008 02:15 (eighteen years ago)

Ellen has her own greeting card line now and it is just goofy.

Abbott, Sunday, 24 February 2008 02:18 (eighteen years ago)

That's awful.

roxymuzak, Sunday, 24 February 2008 02:36 (eighteen years ago)

And I love Ellen.

roxymuzak, Sunday, 24 February 2008 02:36 (eighteen years ago)

Ellen looks fine, Hillary however looks MC Hammner absurd. SHe seemingly cant shake the WHO WEARS THE PANTS fetish of a certain 60's feminist mindset, cf NZ PM Helen Clark.

The Brainwasher, Sunday, 24 February 2008 03:44 (eighteen years ago)

Is that that two thumbs up movie guy whose name I can't remember right now on the left there? (xxpost)

StanM, Sunday, 24 February 2008 03:49 (eighteen years ago)

(Ebert)

StanM, Sunday, 24 February 2008 03:51 (eighteen years ago)

I think suits work better on ellen because her body type is more boyish.

Yerac, Sunday, 24 February 2008 04:24 (eighteen years ago)

I love Ellen.

It would be kind of rad if Hillary did a whole Annie Hall thing for no reason.
