100 Great Film Endings (YouTube Thread) (SPOILERS)

Had mixed feelings about this as a thread idea, but ultimately thought it might be intriguing or provoke curiosity to check out some good movies further, so let's give it a shot.

GROUND RULES:
1) It has to be the very final scene or moment of the movie--not a climax or great scene that comes near the end but is not the final scene (e.g., The Wild Bunch).

2) It has to be a concise clip (i.e., don't post a clip that is the last 10-15 minutes of the movie that happens to have the ending in it).

3) Identify the links with at least the movie name. The very nature of this thread gives away a movie's ending, so the potential for Spoilers should be an obvious warning, but at least by identifying the link, those who haven't seen the movie yet and don't want to know its ending will be forewarned and know they click at their own risk.

Okay, then:

100. OBSESSION (1976), dir. Brian De Palma:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gemxwHsA1T0

Would this scene be the same without Bernard Herrmann's crazy beautiful score? I think not. Also love the contrast between Bujold and Robertson's dazed expression. And the pulsating airport lights in slow-mo (an accident, I think De Palma said).

99. NIGHTS OF CABIRIA (1957), dir. Federico Fellini
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F86ZscT_kLw

One of my favorites.

98. THE THIRD MAN (1949), dir. Carol Reed

one of the things i love about Irreversible, and Cloverfield, is the way they use different chronological tricks to magically turn bleak endings into happy ones. clever bastards.

Eric H., Thursday, 31 January 2008 06:20 (eighteen years ago)

The Third Man is my answer, even though obv it was one of the first things listed.

kenan, Thursday, 31 January 2008 06:36 (eighteen years ago)

I was disappointed that it was snatched up in the first post, too. Best ending ever, and the first one I thought of when I saw this thread title.

kenan, Thursday, 31 January 2008 06:45 (eighteen years ago)
