whatever happened to Denilson?

he went to some middling spanish side (real betis maybe?) for like, £22 million or something, a few years ago (think this was a world record transfer fee at the time - which makes you think...real betis???). you don't hear much of him these days though do you? so what happened?

Betis are third in the league at the moment, ahead of Deportivo and Barcelona. Denilson has been quite prominent of late, although perhaps overshadowed by the monosyllabic homegrown talent.

He's been featuring regularly on SoccerAM's showboating section, with some quite ridiculous pieces of skill.

While Betis were in the second division I think he went on loan back to a Brazilian team. He is a footballing genius though, almost the ultimate luxury player.

After Les Ferdinand surely.

i always go into these threads thinking "OOh i've not heard of that before, maybe he/she is some great new author who will enrich my BRANE". and then it always turns out to be about foopball.

If only you had missed out one of the o's you could well have been on to something there.

Jonnie, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

he is an artist of sorts Katie, especially when you see him do a triple stepover while running at full speed. Or like the feint that he pulled on Saturday which left Puyol on the ground embarrassed beyond belief.

i am thinking Jonnie that the ILx Vs Sinister match will be a prime example of the art of "fopball" heheh :) BUT i think that Cabbage should be the commentator, why his silver tongue makes a mockery of that Gubba bloke. or at least he should write up a post-match report.

katie, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ah bless you katie, indeed it will be a festival of 'fopball' on that Sunday as it would appear that the sinister kids are having a picnic on the same day DANGER NOW!!!

I *think* he went back *while* they were in the second division. Thus showing his commitment to the club, etc. But I'm not sure.

I can find that his favourite actors are Patrick Swaize and Leo Di Caprio but I can't find which club he went back to, I have a feeling it may be Belo Horizonte.

chris, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nope, it was Flamengo, but I can't find the dates, my Portugese is a little rusty.

chris, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Surely he came from Sao Paolo?

Jonnie, Wednesday, 13 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, he played for Sao Paolo from 91 til 98, thence to Betis for the big fee.
